Legendary 70s rock guitarist dies aged 81

In a statement from Ralphs’ bandmate Paul Rodgers, the singer said ‘his heart hit the ground’ with the news. ‘He has left us with exceptional songs and memories. He was my friend, my songwriting partner, an amazing and versatile guitarist who had the greatest sense of humour,’ the statement from Rodgers read. Our last conversation a few days ago we shared a laugh but it won’t be our last. There are many memories of Mick that will create laughter. I will see you in heaven’ (Picture: Redferns)

Drummer Simon Kirke also shared a statement in the wake of Ralphs’ death, saying: ‘He was a dear friend, a wonderful songwriter, and an exceptional guitarist. Bad Company was made from the combined members of the bands Free, Mott The Hoople and King Crimson. Ralphs and Rodgers were joined by Kirke, on drums, and vocalist/guitarist Raymond ‘Boz’ Burrell. Bad Company are set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year, after first rising to fame with their self-titled debut album in 1974.
