The most affectionate cat breeds - yes, they do exist

There are actually plenty of breeds out there that are friendly and love cosying up in the laps of their owners.

To help you find one such cat, it's helpful to know what breeds have the traits and temperament that makes them more affectionate than others.

Some cats love cuddling and being close to their owner.

Just remember that all cats are individuals and just because one breed is considered more affectionate than others it doesn't mean every cat of that breed will express that quality.

That being said, here are the eight most affectionate cat breeds:

Maine coon

Considered the 'gentle giant' of the domestic cat world, Maine coons are sweet natured and adaptable. They are sociable and can be like shadows following their owner around the home, but they're not typically a lap cat. Maine coons get along well with children and other pets.

Ragdoll

A calm cat with an even temper, ragdolls are generally happy to be held in their owner's arms. They love attention from humans and enjoy sitting in your lap. This breed gets its name because these cats go floppy and relaxed when picked up. Ragdolls are good with children and can be socialised to get along with other pets.

Scottish fold

Siamese

Unlike many of the other breeds on this list Siamese cats are quite vocal in a way that's almost like having a conversation with their owner. They are affectionate and smart and have a lot of energy so need enrichment activities and games.
