Nearly 2,000 remain without power at Shore as JCP&L offers water and ice to customers
About 2,000 Jersey Central Power & Light customers across Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties were still without power on Saturday morning and could be waiting until Sunday for it to be restored according to the company's power outage map.
Power was knocked out to over 30,000 customers on Thursday night following quick-moving thunderstorms that downed wires and trees across the region. JCP&L said its crews are working around the clock to restore service to customers. While some customers are expected to have their power restored on Saturday, JCP&L is advising that some customers might get the power back on until 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A large tree was fell onto a home at 360 Woodbine Street in the Belford section of Middletown during Thursday evening storms that swept through the area. The scene is shown Friday afternoon, Jun 20, 2025.
A JCP&L spokesman told the Asbury Park Press on Friday that the delays in restoring service are "just due to the sheer volume of damage locations.''
The outages occured during an extreme heat warning from the National Weather Service, station Mount Holly. The service warns dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108 are expected in western Monmouth and Ocean counties starting Sunday morning at 8 a.m. The heat wave is forecast to last several days, until Wednesday evening.
JCP&L is offering water and ice to customers. See this link for locations. Customers are advised to visit the service desk to get a voucher.
