The first session of play on Day 4 of the first test match between India and England saw KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant take charge after the visitors lost the wicket of skipper Shubman Gill early in the day. Rahul and Pant put up a display with contrasting styles as the former was cautious in tough conditions while the latter tried to take the game on.

The different styles worked for India as the duo ensured that India finished the first session by losing just one wicket despite the England bowlers testing them in overcast overhead conditions, with the pitch showing signs of deterioration after three days of looking like a batting paradise.

As is always the case when Rishabh Pant is in the thick of the action, the stump-mic made for some interesting conversations. In one such instance during the first session, Rahul was told telling Pant to watch the ball closely in a stern manager.

It was Pant's reply that quickly went viral all over social media as the Indian vice-captain told the opening batter that he does not blindly swing the bat.

"haanji aisa nhi hai aise hi ghuma du ball achhe se dekhta hun (Yes, It is not like I swing like this. I see the ball properly)." said Pant.

Talking about the match, India put up a total of 477 in the first session with centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Pant. In reply, Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul helped India bowl out England for 471 and take a six-run lead despite the hosts' putting up a counter-attacking batting effort with a century from Ollie Pope and a knock of 99 from Harry Brook.
