Squid Game season 3 release date – and exact time it drops on UK Netflix

The games are about to commence and this time there can be only one winner as season three of Squid Game arrives on Netflix.

Season two saw the show’s hero Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) driven to utter despair at the loss of his best friend after a failed rebellion.

While the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) has been hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game.

Now, in the final showdown, written and directed by Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, the remaining players are pitted against their unknown adversary for the last time.

He told Netflix’s Tudum: “He (Gi-hun) is in utter despair after losing everything and watching all his efforts go in vain.

“The story then takes an interesting turn, questioning whether Gi-hun can overcome his shame and rise again to prove that values of humanity — like conscience and kindness — can exist in the arena.”

What can we expect from Squid Game’s final season?

Season two of Squid Game saw Gi-hun attempt to rally his fellow competitors against the architects of the game.

His plan appeared to go well, as the rebels almost made it to the control centre of the arena.

But the Front Man, who spends much of Season 2 hiding in plain sight as Player 001, double-crossed Gi-hun and crushed the uprising.

And in a devastating final twist of the knife, the Front Man killed Gi-hun’s best friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).

Hwang told Netflix’s Tudum that season three will explore how Gi-hun continues after his debilitating loss.

He said: “Gi-hun is overwhelmed with a profound sense of defeat and remorse.

“In season three, we’ll see how Gi-hun returns to the game arena and faces the challenges ahead.”

Squid Game season three picks up in the aftermath of the failed rebellion, betrayal and death of Jung-bae.

Although Gi-hun is now at his lowest point yet, the Squid Game stops for no one.

So he will be forced to make some important decisions as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games.

With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences.

Many obstacles lie ahead for Gi-hun, there are the heavily armed pink guards and bloodthirsty players.

The contest will also throw death-defying new games a thim and the rest of his competitors.

The trailer confirms Young-hee, the doll whose all-seeing eyes lord over Red Light, Green Light, will return for an all-new round of play.

There is also a first glimpse of a chilling new game where danger lurks around every corner.

Meanwhile, In-ho resumes his role as Front Man to welcome the mysterious VIPs, and his brother Jun-ho continues his search for the elusive island, unaware there’s a traitor in their midst.

The season three trailer reveals Gi-hun may also come one step closer to learning the truth about Front Man.

In the clip, we see Gi-hun walking through Front Man’s chambers and separately, Front Man removes his mask and, in a voice-over, asks: “Player 456, do you still have faith in people?”

The question at the heart of this final season is whether Gi-hun can make the right decisions or will Front Man finally break his spirit?
