The area of interest aligns with the hot spot identified in WESH's long-range forecast, referred to as the "Slow Gulf Low."

Slow Gulf Low

First spotted in November, this part of the pattern has been slow and seems to focus energy from Louisiana eastward to the Florida Panhandle.

The concern with this part of our long-range pattern is the lack of steering currents.

This is a typically very slow-moving system, so if anything tropical forms in this, a big rain event could ensue.

While this is the main part of this pattern, each time there was a low east of Florida. Although it has never caused any coastal impacts, it's at least worth mentioning.

What to expect

The GFS model suggests that a weak area of energy is developing in the region. However, it is poorly organized.

At this time, it is too early to determine the severity of the possible impacts.

The next named storm will be called Dexter.
