The 21 Best Things I Saw at Men’s Fashion Week

A few days after the end of the men’s spring 2026 runway season, I saw two things that made me double-take on the streets of Paris. The first was a guy leaving a Left Bank vintage shop wearing long gray trousers and a pair of white Havaiana flip-flops. The second was a dude at a bus stop in a sleek business-like suit and tie—but the tie was knotted backwards, so the label faced out. I almost asked my taxi driver to pull over.

I could only draw one conclusion: fashion is back.

At the outset of the spring 2026 men’s fashion shows, I argued that fashion isn’t cool right now. Brands have been taking customers for granted for too long, and haven’t been delivering the originality and inspiration that people rightly crave. That’s why sales are down and so many luxury houses have hired new designers. And then Milan and Paris Fashion Week felt like a big juicy celebration of personal style itself, courtesy of designers who met the moment with a vision of menswear that got our blood pumping again.

As you may have read in Show Notes, one of the big stories of the season was mandals. I even took some toe thongs for a spin after to see what all the fuss was about. So maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised when I saw the young man in Paris who looked like he walked straight off the Auralee runway, where designer Ryota Iwai paired bouncy tropical wool trousers with bright flip-flop sandals. None of the clothes we just saw will be available for six months, but the guy clearly didn’t want to wait. See now, wear now. It felt like a testament to the resurgent relevance of luxury menswear, and the accessibility of these desirable new ideas.

The backwards tie was another small but unmistakable example of the runway trickling down into real life: Jonathan Anderson’s blockbuster Dior debut included several neckties knotted insouciantly in reverse. As Anderson told me: “I wanted a look that had a kind of an honesty, a realness to it… I want it to feel kind of liberating of itself, and that you could see this character in Paris, in any city in the world.”

Well, bingo. The Dior clothes will be astronomically expensive when they finally land in stores. The tie guy—who looked like a twenty-something creative at an advertising firm—might not end up buying any of it. But it seemed obvious to me that he was declaring his fandom of Anderson’s Dior via the simple twist of his accessory, a meaningful sign that twisted Anglo-prep steeze might be a leading menswear paradigm going forward.

Those Auralee sandals and Dior’s messy-schoolboy styling were two of the best things I saw at fashion week, but there was a lot more that moved me that I didn’t get the chance to go deep on in Show Notes, from clothes that look set to define the way we dress to the memorable details and experiences that I can’t stop thinking about as I re-enter normal life: Bill Charlap’s moving performance of his father’s showtunes at Bode’s dollhouse presentation; the cool air inside the Versailles L’Orangerie at Jacquemus; a platter of olive oil-drenched lobster that arrived after a long, stormy day in Milan. The boldfaced highlights we’ll be talking about for months, and the tiny moments in between the social-mediagenic glitz and glamour that have their own magic.

Giorgio Armani is all about the fantasy of the everyday, about clothes that make you look and feel like you’re floating through life. These models’ feet barely touched the runway—that’s how breezy these seafoam silk trousers appeared.

I saw the future of shopping on Via Bigli in Milan, where Umit Benan opened a gorgeous new haberdashery accented with chrome and mahogany. It looks like retreating to the store’s private basement lounge for the greater part of a day as the supremely tasteful Benan builds you a wardrobe of exquisite suits, kaftans, and pajamas.

The skimpy undie-shorts stole the Prada show, but to me the true standout pieces were these washed cotton peacoats, the latest in Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’s recent run of grail-tier spring outerwear.

I’m sure there are plenty of good reasons why exotic canines don’t grace the catwalk very often, but at Dunhill these smiling sighthounds captured—in all their long-snouted glory—the regal eccentricity at the heart of Simon Holloway’s blue-blooded tailoring. Maybe the trick is to hire a dog walker like seasoned supermodel Clément Chabernaud?

Milan Fashion Week could go the way of London—i.e. on life support—and I would still go every season for the heaping platters of catalan lobster that this local seafood joint has been slinging since the ’70s.

After yesterday’s Balenciaga Couture show, the Demna era at the house that Cristobal built is officially over. The exhibition of the most important pieces from his groundbreaking tenure at Kering HQ was a fitting reminder of how he challenged and changed fashion in so many ways. As the magazine-cover catalogue wisely puts it: “Fashion Has To Be Radical (Otherwise it’s pointless)”.

Julian Klausner soundtracked his men’s debut at Dries Van Noten with a series of Lou Reed remixes, including “Street Hassle” (my personal favorite) and “Perfect Day,” which brought the show home, building up and up for what felt like five minutes as the sarong-wrapped models made their last turns. Just as they re-emerged in a colorful pack for the finale—bang! Chorus drop, goosebumps, and wild applause. A reminder that a great show can leave you feeling a little breathless. No designer had more fun this fashion week than Rick Owens, who delivered a humdinger of a show, opened an epic retrospective at the Palais Galliera, and launched an OnlyFans for his feet.

Just when I thought Bode’s world couldn’t get any more delightful and winsome, Emily Adams Bode Aujla turned up the charm with a collection presented on miniature dolls and a performance by Bill Charlap, son of Peter Pan showtunes legend Moose Charlap, whose pitch-perfect renditions from his father’s oeuvre (watch here) was a touchingly human highlight in a week that often feels impersonal.

The staple of ’90s airport style has never looked better or more wearable, thanks to Dior, Junya Watanabe, Kartik Research, and Celine.

The influencer wasn’t invited to Dior, so he threw a viewing party at a local bar. Hundreds showed up for what looked like the hang of the season. I’m guessing Lyas will score an invite next season—Jonathan Anderson thanked him with a bag—but I hope this energy continues. Is a sports bar for fashion shows next?

Craig Green’s return to Paris Fashion Week was a psychedelic fantasia inspired by The Beatles and dog harnesses. Somewhere in between those disparate references emerged these righteous futuristic gladiator shorts.

While you guys were watching Rihanna’s every move at the woefully delayed AWGE show, I couldn't look away from the Tim Burton-esque judge (a.k.a. supermodel and dad Jonas Mason) who sat atop a funhouse mirror district court bench that loomed over the runway.

At the tail end of a long week where I heard two separate people describe the temperature at different shows as “it’s giving heat stroke,” it was an absolute joy to step inside the cool, dark Orangerie at Versailles, where Simon Porte Jacquemus paid tender tribute to the humble styles of the French countryside.

Just when I thought we had an unimpeachable “It” shoe of the season, Michael Rider closed things out with these dainty, Repetto-like flats. Flip-flops: you had a good run!
