BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) – A series of thunderstorms swept through North Dakota on Wednesday evening, showcasing nature’s raw power and beauty.
Chip Duemeland captured stunning photos of a supercell thunderstorm 10 miles south of Crystal Springs in the Lake George National Wildlife Refuge. The images reveal the leading edge of the rotating updraft, illuminated by the sunset, highlighting the heart of the supercell.
In Gackle, a shelf cloud approached with wind gusts reaching 70 mph. Jaime Riehle shared dramatic photos of the cloud formation, indicative of the intense weather conditions.

Mandan experienced rapidly intensifying storms, with cloud formations signaling the development of a tornado-warned storm in central Burleigh County. Jennifer Gierke’s photos depict the storm’s progression.
