A $1.3 billion budget agreement in Wisconsin includes significant income tax cuts primarily benefiting the middle class, as well as increased funding for the University of Wisconsin system. Local leaders have praised the budget’s provisions for tax relief and improved government accountability. The budget passed and was signed by Gov. Tony Evers on July 3, avoiding a government shutdown.

The tax cuts benefit over 1.6 million residents, with an average annual reduction of $180. Key provisions expand the second-lowest income tax bracket and make the first $24,000 of income tax-free for individuals aged 67 and older.
