  • Their first child, James Wilkie, was born on October 28, 2002.
  • Twins Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell arrived on June 22, 2009.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have a lot of love for their son, James Wilkie, and their daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell. The longtime couple first became parents with the birth of James in 2002. Seven years later, they grew their family by two with the arrival of twins Tabitha and Marion. Now that all three kids are approaching adulthood, Parker says she hopes they can find fulfilment—in life and work.

"You want for them to be pursuing things that are exciting and challenging and hard and gratifying and to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves—emotionally, financially," she told E! News. "And that they can be in the world and be a reliable person to themselves and to other people. And so we talk about work like that."

She continued, "I'm curious to see what they all do, but I hope that they feel—I hope all young people feel—to some degree, that they have choices, and that there isn't one way."

As for Parker's partnership with Broderick? The couple met back in 1991 and tied the knot in 1997, just one year before the burgeoning actress sky rocketed to fame with the premiere of Sex and the City. Over two decades later, the duo are still very much in love.

From sibling dynamics to whether or not they've seen SATC, here's everything you should know about Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's three children: James, Tabitha, and Marion.

James Wilkie

James Wilkie Broderick was born on October 28, 2002 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He weighed 6 lbs, 8 ounces and was named after Broderick's late father, James.

"Mother and baby are doing very well," Parker's publicist said at the time. "Everyone is healthy." Broderick's rep told the Associated Press, "Everybody is totally over the moon and ready to go home."

The family of three were met by a large group of photographers outside the hospital, to which Parker jokingly said, “Thanks for caring. It must be a slow news week.”

A few years later, Parker opened up about her parenting style during an interview with Parade, telling the publication that her son exclusively wore hand-me-downs.

"He only wears hand-me-downs because I've got all these older nephews," the Divorce actress said. "That's the God's honest truth. Plus, my mother saved all my brothers' clothes. I am not kidding. I don't think I've ever bought him any clothes. Maybe a new winter coat. I do buy him shoes, because everybody's feet are different."

Parker also explained that she would be the person she is today had she been raised a "child of privilege." "I have a great appreciation for work," she added. "I think it's incumbent on my husband and me to really stress and to show James Wilkie by example what it means to owe your community something and that he is not entitled to the benefits of our hard work."

James has since graduated from Brown University with degrees in Classics and Classical Languages, Literature, and Linguistics. He shared a carousel of images from the happy day on Instagram.

Post-college, Broderick says his son is "trying to act a little bit." Most recently, James and his dad appeared together as guest stars on an episode of the CBS drama Elsbeth. As for his mom's legendary role in Sex and the City? James hasn't seen it. "I guess it’s kind of obvious why maybe I hadn’t watched the original show as a kid," he told Entertainment Tonight.

Parker and Broderick welcomed Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell via surrogate on June 22, 2009, per People. The twins were born in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Hodge and Elwell are names from Parker's side of the family, according to Today.

"I'm excited," Parker told Access Hollywood just before the girls were born. "I'm in disbelief. I'm really grateful. I feel really fortunate. My son is so excited, my husband is so excited."

In 2018, Parker shared insight into Tabitha and Marion's relationship with People. “They have different interests,” she told the publication, adding, "They’re really devoted to each other, but they’ll also say, ‘I need time away from her.’ Tabitha can play by herself for hours. Loretta always needs to be checking in. They go to different schools. That’s Tabitha’s idea.”

Parker also remembers that the twins realized her star power when she graced the cover of Vogue in 2021. "I showed my daughters … and both my daughters' hands went to their mouths and they were like, 'You're on the cover of Vogue?' I didn't know they were aware of Vogue," Parker told the publication. "So, that was very touching to me."

Tabitha and Marion's favorite film from their mother's oeuvre is arguably Hocus Pocus, the 1993 witch movie featuring Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy. Parker reunited with her former co-stars to film the long-awaited sequel in 2022.

"They were so excited to meet Bette and Kathy," Parker told People. "Loretta kept asking me, 'But wait, are we going to meet them as [their characters] Winnie and Mary? Or are we going to meet them as Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy?'"

As for Parker's iconic wardrobe? Apparently her daughters aren't particularly interested—at least not yet. "Thus far, they’re not really raiding my closet or anything," the actress said in an interview with W. "They’ll be 16 in June, and they like clothing, but it’s not playing an oversize role in their life. They definitely have ideas about how they want to feel and look when they walk out the door, but they don’t seem particularly distracted [by it]."
