Live updates: Multiple victims shot; shooter dead in NYC

(NewsNation) — Multiple people have been shot and a gunman is dead after New York City police responded to an active shooter at a Midtown Manhattan office building.

Police swarmed the 44-story high-rise at 345 Park Avenue near East 52 Street between Park and Lexington avenues at around 6:30 p.m. after getting a call about a shooting.

At least 4 people, including an off-duty police officer and three civilians, were shot, according to NewsNation affiliate WPIX. Police have yet to confirm the number of victims or their conditions.

The scene has been secured and the lone gunman is dead. The suspect was named as Shane Tamura of Nevada after cops found identification on his body, The Associated Press reported.

He shot himself as police closed in on him on the 33rd floor of the building, which houses financial firms and the National Football League, among other companies.
