Missing Woman, 59, Vanished from Greek Beach as Her Husband Slept on Lounge Chair: Reports

Authorities in Greece are searching for a 59-year-old woman who vanished while visiting a beach with her husband.

Michele Bourda was last seen on Ofryni beach in the city of Kavala in northern Greece at midday local time on Friday, Aug. 1, according to a translated missing persons report released by the local charity Lifeline Hellas.

The British citizen disappeared from the beach “where she had gone swimming with her husband,” according to the report. She is described as being slim with straight blonde shoulder-length hair and hazel eyes, and is 5 feet 6 inches tall.

“On the day she disappeared, she was wearing a two-piece swimsuit with rhinestones, yellow beach shoes and red, bone-rimmed sunglasses,” Lifeline Hellas added. The organization first issued an alert for Bourda on Saturday, Aug. 2. 

Bourda reportedly lived with her husband, who is of Greek origin, in the city of Serres in Macedonia, according to Sky News.

The 59-year-old is believed to have vanished from the beach as her husband slept on a sunbed, the U.K. newspaper The Standard reported. Her belongings were reportedly left on the beach at the time she went missing.

Kavala’s central port authority received reports of Bourda's disappearance on the evening of Aug. 1, according to Sky News.

“Her life is in danger,” Lifeline Hellas added in the missing persons report, which has urged anyone with information to contact their Silver Alert service via the Greek SOS Line 1065.
