The Devil Wears Prada 2 Cast Adds Australian Actor Patrick Brammall As Andy’s Love Interest

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all reprising their iconic roles in the sequel.
  • Australian actor Patrick Brammall is rumoured to play Andy Sachs’ love interest.
  • Simone Ashley is also rumoured to play Miranda Priestly’s current assistant

Typically, I’m a firm believer that our world could benefit from having less sequels made. But that applies to almost every iconic film except for The Devil Wears Prada. It may not be exactly groundbreaking for a millennial woman who works in magazines to be metaphorically foaming at the mouth for a sequel to the 2006 film, but here we are. Waiting with bated breath for any update relating to the production, big or small.

In late June, it was confirmed that the core cast — Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci — would be reprising their roles for the sequel. It was also confirmed that Adrian Grenier’s character Nate, who many have argued is the real villain of the original film (including Grenier himself), would not be making a comeback in the upcoming film.

Now, per Deadline and Variety, the cast for The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been officially stacked with stars, including Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, and B.J. Novak. And just this week, we even caught a glimpse of Australian actor Patrick Brammall galivanting in New York City while filming a scene with Anne Hathaway.

Ahead, we break down exactly who will be walking the hallowed halls of Runway Magazine in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Anne Hathaway

Though some have argued that Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, was actually the villain of the original film, it would be impossible to revive The Devil Wears Prada without her. At the end of the first film, Andy was gearing up for an interview at a newspaper, but of course, we never found out whether she landed the job and couldn’t begin to speculate on where she might be now. That said, we can’t wait to find out when it hits cinemas.

Meryl Streep

There’s no Devil Wears Prada without the devil herself Miranda Priestly, so of course she will be stepping back into the sharpened stilettos of the infamous (fictional) magazine editor. The sequel is set to follow Priestly as she navigates an ailing print media industry, as she battles it out with her former assistant Emily (played by Blunt), who is now “high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs”.

Emily Blunt

One character who deserved to come out on top was Emily. Famously, Miranda’s first assistant who was shafted from the fames Paris Fashion Week trip in the first film, it looks like she has been doing very well for herself in the 20-odd years since the credits rolled. Emily is now a high-powered executive at a luxury brand and she holds all the power over Miranda, who desperately needs the ad dollars from her company. Delicious.

Stanley Tucci

We still haven’t forgotten about Miranda’s unforgivable betrayal of Stanley Tucci’s character, Nigel. We’d love to see the tables turn for Nigel in the second film as well, as it has for Emily, because him taking over Runway would be the sweetest revenge.

Simone Ashley

It’s been a turbulent year in the entertainment industry for Simone Ashley, who was thrilled to be cast in the F1 movie and was sadly cut from the final version of the film. That’s what makes her casting in The Devil Wears Prada 2 even sweeter, and though we don’t know yet who she will play in the sequel, we’re excited to see the Bridgerton star on-screen when the film is released next May.

Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu, who is of course known best for her roles in the Charlie’s Angels franchise and Kill Bill (to name only a couple) and we’re shocked we didn’t think of her as a perfect casting for this sequel earlier. She would make the perfect editor from a rival magazine, and we’d love to see her going head to head with Miranda.

Patrick Brammall

The Devil Wears Prada 2 set has been one of Hollywood’s worst kept secrets, with paparazzi pictures streaming in daily. The latest from the streets of New York is that Canberra-born actor, Patrick Brammall (best known for his role in (Colin From Accounts), will play Andy Sachs’ love interest. Yes, it would seem our favourite former assistant has a thing for Australian men (famously, Simon Baker wrecked havoc on her private life in the first film).

Pauline Chalamet

Yes, Pauline Chalamet is the sister of another very famous actor (of course, we’re talking about Timothee), but she’s also an accomplished actor in her own right. She got her big break as Kimberly in the beloved comedy series, Sex Lives of College Girls, but now, she’s stepping into the world of luxury magazines. Though we don’t know who she’ll play, we’d love to see her as either an assistant, or a young-gun creative giving Miranda Priestly a run for their money.

Justin Theroux

Justin Theroux is another confirmed casting for the sequel, joining the core Runway group and former Charlies Angels: Full Throttle castmate, Lucy Lui. It’s not clear who he’ll play, but we have our money on one of the newly appointed creative directors at a major fashion house. He just has that look about him.

B.J. Novak

Best known as a writer and star on hit television series, The Office, we can see comedian B.J. Novak slotting nicely into the colourful cast of characters that work at Elias-Clark.

Kenneth Branagh

Per Deadline, Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as Miranda’s husband. In the first film, she was on the rocks with her husband and father of her children, and with so much time having passed, it’s possible that this is a newer husband and not the same one she was previously married to. Time will tell.
