Buffalo appears in Netflix's newest hit series
If you've watched Netflix's newest streaming series "Sirens," you may have noticed some nods to Buffalo in the official trailer and first episode.
Sirens was released on the streaming service May 22, and follows along with main character Devon, who is worried about her sister Simone's too-close relationship with her billionaire boss, according to Netflix's website.
In the official trailer released by Netflix, at the 1:05 minute mark of the video you see Devon sitting on a curb outside a building that reads 'Buffalo Police B-District.' Even though it's not the actual police station building on Main Street, Devon and Simone's hometown is identified as Buffalo throughout the series, with numerous references to the Buffalo Bills and more.
A majority of the series takes place on an unnamed island where Simone has been living away from her sister and father whose received a diagnosis of early onset dementia.
The series features actors Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Kevin Bacon, and Julianne Moore.
Molly Smith Metzler is the creator and showrunner for Sirens.
Metzler is an alumni of SUNY Geneseo and was their commencement keynote speaker in 2017 and honorary degree recipient in 2023 according to Geneseo's Honors College website.
In 2023, Geneseo Honors College said in an article, "Molly Smith Metzler is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. She is the creator, writer, and executive producer of the limited series Maid (Netflix), which earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing of a Limited Series. Maid was named a “TV Program of the Year” by the American Film Institute, Metzler won a Writers Guild of America Award, and the show was nominated for three Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, two Critics Choice Awards, two TCA Awards, The Humanitas Prize, and more. Currently, Metzler is creating a new show (Sirens) for Netflix, where she is under a multi-year overall deal."
