Louisiana star joins Team USA, going for gold at the FIBA World Cup

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A three-time FIBA 3×3 U18 gold medalist and star guard for the LSU Tigers, this basketball star is taking it up a level at the 2025 FIBA 3×3 World Cup.

Mikayla Williams, a standout basketball player from Louisiana, made a significant mark at the FIBA under-18 level and is now taking her talents to represent Team USA at the senior level.

According to a recent announcement from USA Basketball, Williams has been selected for the 2025 USA Basketball 3×3 National Senior Team Roster.

The decision comes as no surprise, as Williams has gained mass success among the team’s lower age group divisions.

In 2023, Williams was dominant at the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 54 points, helping the team secure a gold medal.

The previous year, she was also the tournament leader, scoring 59 points at the 2022 3×3 U18 World Cup, further solidifying her status as one of the brightest young talents in basketball.

Williams’s achievements have earned her many accolades, including being named USA Basketball’s 3×3 Athlete of the Year in 2022 and USA Basketball 3×3 Female Athlete of the Year in 2023.

Her journey in FIBA tournaments began at the age of 16 when she was still in high school.

Hailing from Bossier City, LA, Williams attended Parkway High School, where she honed her skills and emerged as a leader on the court.

While in High School, Williams was a two-time Gatorade player of the year., 2022-23 MaxPreps Louisiana High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year and selected for the McDonald’s All‑American Game.

In recognition of her achievements, Parkway High School retired her jersey in 2024.

The FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from June 23 to June 29.

Before the World Cup, the team will participate in the FIBA 3×3 Pro Circuit on June 18 and 19.
