Prelude to World War 3?

As the conflict between Iran and Israel continues to brew, many people are concerned that the United States will be pulled into another foreign war. However, there’s another fight going on: Trump supporters arguing whether to get involved in Iran at all.

Between Washington and Tehran

The New York Times writes that US President Donald Trump is trapped between two factions of the Republican Party: “America First” isolationists who fear getting involved into yet another international conflict and Israel supporters, who applaud dealing with Iran once for all.

A MAGA divided cannot stand

“This, right now, is going to cause, I think, a major schism in the MAGA online community,” Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist and podcaster, said on his podcast, as quoted by The New York Times.

Carlson Vs. Cruz

Newsweek reports that former Fox News host Tucker Carlson got into a shouting match with Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz (pictured) over Iran, showing the growing rift within the heart of the Republican Party.

'Theocratic lunatic'

According to Newsweek, Cruz cheered Israel’s strikes against Iran, claiming that the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was a “theocratic lunatic” that shouldn’t possess nuclear weapons.

The unlikely voice of reason

Carlson, for all his faults, has been described by Newsweek as a long-time non-interventionist, accused Cruz and his faction of wanting to topple a country they know nothing about.

Even MTG speaks against it

Georgia congresswoman and Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene defended Carlson, with the BBC quoting her saying that anyone who supported Iran’s intervention was not “America First”.

Isolationists Vs. war hawks

“What's happening here is some of the isolationist movement led by Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon are distressed we may be helping the Israelis defeat the Iranians,” Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell explained to CNN.

'Finish the job'

Meanwhile, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham warned to Fox News that “President Trump understands the threat the ayatollah presents to us, not just Israel, and that he will, at the end of the day, help Israel finish the job.”

'Stupid endless wars'

The BBC describes Trump as having two minds about this subject. On one hand, during the campaign, the US President denounced “stupid endless wars” but also has staunchly maintained that Iran can’t have nuclear weapons.
