Severe storms cause extensive damage across Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Thursday night’s severe weather has done extensive damage across Central Virginia, knocking down dozens of trees, taking down power lines and more.

The majority of the reports involve downed trees or power lines — with the latter especially contributing to the widespread power outages noted by Dominion Energy.

There are also multiple reports of trees falling into homes, including the Henrico County and Chesterfield County homes pictured below.

Roadways across the region are blocked by some of these fallen trees and power lines, as well, creating hazards for drivers. One report out of Henrico noted that fires were sparked by fallen power lines in the area of West Broad Street and West Club Lane.

If you see a downed power line, do not touch it or drive your car anywhere near it. Stay put and call 911 immediately.
