1. A Mediterranean marvel

When Abbey Brown first moved in, she gave her bathroom a coat of green paint for a budget-friendly refresh. But after discovering serious water damage and mold, she had to strip it back to the brickwork. She took it as a chance to rethink her aesthetics, opting for a Mediterranean feel instead. The bath came out to make way for a large walk-in shower, which she paired with contrasting terracotta hexagon tiles on the floor, and blue antique tiles in a gold waterfall shower. The olive green paint might break the old ‘blue and green should never be seen’ rule, but here it works beautifully, adding rustic charm. Andrea Walton set out to blend two aesthetics in her partial wet room: Victorian heritage with a contemporary twist. You can really see the mix at play, with a luxurious roll-top tub and iron radiators, sitting alongside a modern walk-in shower. The colour scheme is bold but balanced. Cherry pink upper walls pop against a black and white feature wall, giving the space a mod-inspired edge. Anoushka Lancaster’s approach was to treat the bathroom like any other room in the house, rather than one that’s too-often forgotten. She repurposed an old storage cupboard and turned it into something that feels straight out of a Regency daydream. Floral wallpaper that wouldn’t be out of place in a master bedroom lines the walls. Anoushka also added an upcycled antique dresser, painted the freestanding bathtub in bespoke pink hue, added a countertop and installed floral painted basins. Gold taps come straight out of the wall and gold-framed mirrors dial up the opulence (Picture: Anoushka Lancaster)

Anthea O’Neil’s bathroom, featuring a copper bathtub snapped up as an ex-display bargain, is all about calm and serenity. Green tiles, air-purifying plants and a double vanity with his and hers sinks give the space a luxe, hotel-style feel. Estelle Bilson started with a very basic, very white 20-year-old bathroom and a budget of practically £0. She turned to pre-loved pieces and scored an original 1970s French suite on eBay for just £20, complete with taps and bath. She fitted it herself and paired it with period-correct tiles to create an opulent, retro-inspired space, taking cues from Biba and Studio 54. The result is a total transformation (Picture: Estelle Bilson)

Can a downstairs loo have main character energy? Jodie Kemp’s little WC certainly does. A sliding door maximises space, while black and white hallway tiles flow seamlessly into a pink and white colour scheme. Ostrich-print wallpaper brings a surreal, cheeky twist, and sarcastic, sweary wall art keeps guests on their toes. Cobalt blue for the loo? Absolutely. Becca Collier-Cook transformed her tiny box bathroom from beige and boxy to brilliant.
