Still waiting on your Georgia surplus tax refund? Here's what to know about payments
Some Georgia residents have already received their 2025 surplus tax refund deposits marked “GASTTAXRFD,” but many are still waiting for the funds to arrive.
So, when will your Georgia state tax refund hit your account? According to the Georgia Department of Revenue, payments are being sent in weekly batches to avoid technical issues and ensure accuracy.
"The Department is issuing surplus refunds in batches," Joe Snowden, Director of External Affairs and Communications for the Department of Revenue, said, "and the number of refunds issued will increase week over week."
After Georgia’s tax deadline was extended to May 1, 2025, due to Hurricane Helene, the state announced refunds would begin going out 6 to 8 weeks later, between June 12 and June 26.
Now that deposits have begun, the state is taking a slow and steady approach to ensure each batch is sent out without errors.
"It’s a precautionary step," Snowden said, "to help avoid errors and make sure everything runs smoothly."
How much is the Georgia surplus refund in 2025?
- $250 for single filers or married filing separately
- $375 for head of household
- $500 for married couples filing jointly
These refunds are not taxable under Georgia law and will not accrue interest. They are issued from the state’s surplus budget as a one-time benefit.
