A tropical disturbance could bring heavy rain to New Orleans. Here's what you need to know

1 pm Update- The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has been watching an area of disturbed weather of the southeastern coast, and they still have potential development for this system at 20% over the next 2 days, and 30% for the next 3-7 days.

The National Hurricane Center is closely watching a broad area of low pressure sitting just off the east coast of Florida. This disturbance is expected to drift into the northeastern Gulf of Mexico by late Tuesday, with potential impacts for Southeast Louisiana later this week.

While conditions are only marginally favorable for tropical development, some gradual strengthening is possible as it moves into the Gulf. Even if it does not become a named system, this disturbance is expected to increase tropical moisture across the region, which could lead to rounds of heavy rainfall and localized flooding from Florida to Louisiana this week.

Forecast models are already showing signs of higher rain totals building into parts of Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Several inches of rain may be possible depending on how the system evolves.

Chance of development over the next 3-7 days: Low 30%

IMPACTS TO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA:

Louisiana is likely to receive heavy rainfall by Thursday, Friday, possibly Saturday regardless of tropical development.
