Pop-up storms are possible again today for parts of North Carolina after widespread flash flooding in the Piedmont Triad earlier this week.

Tropical Storm Chantal left copious amounts of tropical moisture behind and that combined with a surface low-pressure system stretched out over the Piedmont Triad on Wednesday, sparking torrential downpours and significant flash flooding. Severe storms that moved through Thursday caused more flash flooding over the central Triad communities of High Point, Kernersville, Lexington, and Thomasville.

The WXII 12 First Warning Weather Team is monitoring another chance for isolated thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. Some storms could bring heavy rain and gusty winds. Thunderstorms and pockets of heavy rain can produce torrential downpours. Flash flooding remains a concern in already drenched regions of the Triad. Please keep digital devices charged and stay weather aware before heading outdoors on Friday.

Storm Reports on July 9th
Reports of downed trees, and harmful lightning have been received for parts of the Piedmont Triad. One person was reportedly struck by lightning in Iredell County on Wednesday afternoon as the storms developed. A line of severe thunderstorms began merging over the Triad as Chantal's lingering surface moisture converged to bring life-threatening flash flooding to many areas of the Piedmont Triad.
