More rain Saturday afternoon after heavy storms move through Philadelphia region Friday

Strong storms that hit the Philadelphia region Friday night into Saturday morning have moved out, but we're watching out for more rain that could arrive in the afternoon. We have a NEXT Weather Alert for those afternoon storms, some of which could briefly turn severe.

This morning we're seeing high water levels in the area's streams, creeks and rivers after Friday night's storms dropped heavy rain.

The Delaware River, which is tidal, is in minor flood stage — cresting at nearly 10 feet in Burlington, New Jersey for high tide around 7 a.m.

Around 5:30 a.m. the water level at the Washington Avenue monitoring station in Philadelphia was measured at 8.5 feet for high tide.

The Schuylkill River and the Little Lehigh and Perkiomen creeks were also elevated Saturday morning along with the Cooper River in New Jersey.

Rainy weather continues Saturday in Philadelphia area

Saturday morning begins near 60 degrees with clouds and some brief clearing.

Then we see some scattered storms roll in later in the day; any storm has the potential to briefly turn severe with pockets of heavy rain and a brief damaging wind gust.

Most of the region is under a Level 1 or "marginal" risk of severe weather, except for the Lehigh Valley, Berks County and Upper Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Behind the cold front, we will turn cooler with Sunday in the upper 60s to near 70 under partly cloudy skies. A spotty instability shower is possible as the storm system lifts off to the northeast.

Meteorological summer begins Sunday. True astronomical summer is still three weeks away, beginning June 20, but it will feel like it next week.

Our first workweek of June starts dry and seasonable in the mid to upper 70s with mostly sunny skies; then the high temperature rockets up to 85 for Tuesday and we could see the 90s by Wednesday and Thursday.
