On June 26, Anna Wintour announced to her staff that she will be stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue. After almost four decades of paving the way forward for fashion worldwide, Wintour will still continue in her role as Vogue’s global editorial director, as well as chief content officer at Condé Nast.

To replace her at the helm of one of the world's most influential fashion magazines, Wintour is introducing a new role: "head of editorial content." In her statement, Wintour expressed that she wanted to support "the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas."

Indeed, 37 years on, this marks the end of an era! One of the most powerful women in media whom everyone knows and who knows everyone, Wintour is also so much more than the inspiration for 'The Devil Wears Prada.' She may be stepping down, but the impact of her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of fashionistas everywhere.

It featured Israeli model Michaela Bercu in a Christian Lacroix Haute Couture top and jeans. Wintour said that the top was part of a suit but that the bottom didn’t fit Bercu. She is very good friends with Swiss tennis player Roger Federer. She has attended some of his matches, and his victory over Andy Roddick at Wimbledon is said to be her all-time favorite match.

In 2003, Wintour's former assistant Lauren Weisberger wrote a novel loosely based on Wintour. It was later made into a movie, starring Meryl Streep as a merciless fashion editor.

Early in May 2019, Wintour was spotted giving Streep an affectionate cheek kiss during the pair's hour-long power lunch in Manhattan, 13 years after the film was released.

The occupational hazard of loving fur

In October 2005 she was the unexpected recipient of a pie-in-the-face on behalf of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) on the way to a Chloé show during Paris Fashion Week. The organization was protesting against the promotion of fur in the magazine.
