Kiel Municipal Band will present its Patriotic Concert July 2 in Kiel and July 5 in Kohler

KIEL – Kiel Municipal Band’s annual Patriotic Concert will be at 7 p.m. July 2 at City Park, 417 Paine St., in Kiel, and again at 8 p.m. July 5 as part of the annual Kohler American Club Independence Day celebration and fireworks at Ravine Park in Kohler at 8 p.m. July 5.

Presented in the style of the “March King” John Philip Sousa, the concert will feature Sousa marches “The Harmonica Wizard,” “Washington Post” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

In addition, the KMB will perform Sousa’s “With Pleasure – Dance Hilarious,” an original ragtime piece for band.

Additional pieces on the concert include “Raiders March” by John Williams and “Tribute to Glenn Miller,” including the songs “Tuxedo Junction,” “Little Brown Jug,” “Jersey Bounce” and “American Patrol.”

An arrangement of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Carmen Dragon will also be heard.

Courtney Eberle, a 2019 alumna of Kiel High School and a UW-Eau Claire graduate, will be the vocal soloist. Her featured solo will be a medley of Duke Ellington songs, including “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me,” “Sophisticated Lady” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.” Carmen Dragon will also present “America, the Beautiful.”

The Kiel Municipal Band is reflected in the bell of a sousaphone during the 2015 Independence Day Parade in Sheboygan.

The concert will conclude with “Armed Forces Salute,” a tribute to military members and veterans in the audience and everywhere in the world.

The concert is free, family-friendly and open to everyone. If it rains, it will be inside Kiel High School Performing Arts Center.

Prior to the concert, starting at 4 p.m. and continuing until 8 p.m. July 2, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 424 Fremont St., will host a Picnic in the Park.
