White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt demanded that CNN retract its claim that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) weren’t briefed on President Donald Trump’s Iran strikes. She insisted that congressional leaders were informed in advance, despite their post-strike condemnation over lack of authorization. Leavitt called the CNN report “fake news," stating the White House made bipartisan courtesy calls.

Following the strikes, Schumer stated, "No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy."

Leavitt noted that Jeffries couldn’t be reached until after the attack but was briefed shortly afterward. She wrote, "The White House made bipartisan courtesy calls to Congressional Leadership and spoke to @SenSchumer before the strike. @RepJeffries could not be reached until after, but he was briefed. @CNN please retract."

Jeffries condemned the strikes, stating, "We've seen no evidence to date that an offensive strike of this nature was justified under the War Powers Act or the Constitution."

Jeffries added, "But the whole reason for the Trump administration to undertake that process is to come up to Capitol Hill and convince the American people and their elected representatives in the House and in the Senate. That hasn't happened."

CNN later added a correction which read, "This story has been updated to make clear Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was called before the strike, not after as initially reported."
