Maggie Q stars as Detective Renée Ballard, who heads up the Los Angeles Police Department’s cold case review unit, in the new Prime Video show.

She is also the former partner of veteran police detective Harry Bosch, the star of 24 books from best-selling author Michael Connelly and the television series Bosch and Bosch: Legacy.

Connelly, who executive produces this new spin-off, said: “I’m beyond excited about sharing this show.

“I’ve seen it and know how good it is, and how Maggie Q absolutely captures the character of Renée Ballard.

“Great writing, acting, directing and production, throw in a few surprise appearances, and I think this show is going to be a fan favorite.”

While fellow executive producers Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood described the new series as “gritty, emotional, and grounded, with that layered storytelling that makes Michael Connelly’s world so compelling”.

What is Ballard about?

Detective Renée Ballard leads the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) new and underfunded cold case division.

She is tasked with tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and determination.

But as she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and the murder of an unknown victim, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD.

With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard must navigate personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth.

Maggie Q leads the cast as Detective Renée Ballard, who is in charge of LAPD’s new cold case department.

The American actress, 46, is known for her role as Nikita Mears in the televisions series Nikita. She also played Beth Davis / Michelle Webber in Stalker, Hannah Wells in Designated Survivor, and Sarah in Pivoting.

On film, she has appeared in Mission: Impossible III, The Protege, and The Family Plan.

Courtney Taylor

Courtney Taylor is Samira Parker, who returns to the LAPD to join the cold case unit.

Actress and comedian Taylor started her career playing Jasmine in Single & Anxious.

She has gone on to appears in Insecure, Send Help, Abbott Elementary, The Company You Keep, and Neon.

John Carroll Lynch

John Carroll Lynch plays Thomas Laffont, a retired former police officer who returns to help Ballard in the cold case unit.

Lynch, 61, starred as s Norm Gunderson in the 1996 film Fargo. He has also appeared in Face/Off, Gran Torino, Shutter Island, Crazy, Stupid Love, The Invitation, Jackie and Outlaw Possee.

On television, he has had leading roles in The Drew Carey Show, Close to Home, K-Ville, Body of Proof, One Dollar, American Horror Story and Big Sky.
