SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — (Updated 5:04 PM — 7/10/25) — The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…Northwestern Madison County in northeastern Nebraska…Western Pierce County in northeastern Nebraska…Central Antelope County in northeastern Nebraska…Until 600 PM CDT.

At 459 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Clearwater, or 7 miles west of Neligh, moving east at 25 mph.

Two inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts are possible. People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

This severe thunderstorm will be near…Neligh around 510 PM CDT.

The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…Western Pierce County in northeastern Nebraska…Northern Antelope County in northeastern Nebraska…Southwestern Knox County in northeastern Nebraska…Until 515 PM CDT.

At 431 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 4 miles north of Clearwater, or 11 miles northwest of Neligh, moving northeast at 25 mph.

60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail possible. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

This severe thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of western Pierce, northern Antelope and southwestern Knox Counties, including the following locations… Royal, The Highway 14 And 59 Junction, Grove Lake Recreation Area, Brunswick, and Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for all of NE Nebraska, Clay & Union counties in SE South Dakota, and: Plymouth, Woodbury, Monona, & Harrison counties in NW Iowa until 10 PM CDT.

After heavy storms rolled through Siouxland Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, another round of potentially severe weather is inbound Thursday afternoon.

Much of Siouxland has been outlined in an Enhanced (3/5) Risk for severe weather through the afternoon and into the evening and early overnight hours.

This risk zone includes the entire Sioux City metro, communities like: Wayne, Orange City, Le, Mars, Ida Grove, Sac City, and Vermillion.

Elsewhere, along the periphery of the enhanced risk zone, is a Slight Risk (2/5) of severe weather.

Primary threats will be damaging wind gusts in excess of 70 mph, hail up to 2″ (lime/hen egg sized), and an isolated tornado or two. Frequent lightning and very heavy rain is also likely with these storms.

A Flood Watch has been issued in Pierce, Madison, Stanton, Cuming, Burt, Thurston, Wayne, Dakota, Dixon & Cedar counties in NE Nebraska, and: Woodbury, Ida, Sac, Calhoun, Monona, Crawford, & Harrison counties in NW Iowa through 7 AM Friday morning.

At 1213 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Vermillion to 6 miles southwest of Newcastle to near Hoskins, moving east at 30 mph.

60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are possible. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Severe thunderstorms will be near…Vermillion, Allen, Newcastle, Concord, Martinsburg, and Dixon In Dixon County around 1220 AM CDT. Ponca and Ponca State Park around 1225 AM CDT.

At 1015 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles southwest of Verdel, or 23 miles east of Spencer, moving east at 40 mph.

60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are possible. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

This severe thunderstorm will be near…Verdel around 1020 PM CDT. Niobrara around 1025 PM CDT.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches are in effect through 1 AM Thursday morning for: Yankton County in SE South Dakota and in NE Nebraska: Antelope, Knox, Pierce, Cedar, Wayne, Madison, & Stanton counties.

Scattered damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph and hail up to 2″ (lime/hen egg) are possible as storms move in into the overnight hours.

After severe weather impacted parts of Siouxland Monday afternoon and evening, more severe storms are possible through the end of the workweek.

The first round of severe weather potential arrives through the evening and overnight Wednesday, with northeast Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, and westernmost portions on northwest Iowa in a Slight (2/5) Risk for severe weather. A narrow corridor through Osceola, O’Brien, Cherokee, Ida, and Crawford counties are in a Marginal (1/5) Risk for severe weather.

Elsewhere, storms are expected to decrease in intensity and should stay below severe limits as this cluster of storms pushes eastward.

Damaging wind gusts, in excess of 65-70 mph are the primary threat for the night tonight, although quarter (1″) to half-dollar (1.25″) sized hail is also possible, along with frequent lightning and pockets of heavy rain.

This batch of storms clears the region through mid morning Thursday and we see clearing and hot/muggy conditions through the afternoon hours.

Another round of showers/storms and severe weather potential arrives by early/mid evening, generally after 6/7PM or so in Siouxland. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, quarter sized hail, and an isolated or two are all possible. Heavy rain will also be a concern with locally heavy rain and localized flash flooding possible.

Seeing Thursday night’s severe weather threat winding down into the late overnight hours Thursday/early morning hours of Friday as a cold front begins to push through.

Scattered shower/storm chances look to linger into the afternoon Friday with the threat of an isolated strong/severe storm also lingering. Should though, see severe weather and shower/storm chances taper off the later we get into the afternoon and evening hours.
