At 1015 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles southwest of Verdel, or 23 miles east of Spencer, moving east at 40 mph.

60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail are possible. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

This severe thunderstorm will be near…Verdel around 1020 PM CDT. Niobrara around 1025 PM CDT.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches are in effect through 1 AM Thursday morning for: Yankton County in SE South Dakota and in NE Nebraska: Antelope, Knox, Pierce, Cedar, Wayne, Madison, & Stanton counties.

Scattered damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph and hail up to 2″ (lime/hen egg) are possible as storms move in into the overnight hours.

After severe weather impacted parts of Siouxland Monday afternoon and evening, more severe storms are possible through the end of the workweek.

The first round of severe weather potential arrives through the evening and overnight Wednesday, with northeast Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, and westernmost portions on northwest Iowa in a Slight (2/5) Risk for severe weather. A narrow corridor through Osceola, O’Brien, Cherokee, Ida, and Crawford counties are in a Marginal (1/5) Risk for severe weather.

Elsewhere, storms are expected to decrease in intensity and should stay below severe limits as this cluster of storms pushes eastward.

Damaging wind gusts, in excess of 65-70 mph are the primary threat for the night tonight, although quarter (1″) to half-dollar (1.25″) sized hail is also possible, along with frequent lightning and pockets of heavy rain.

This batch of storms clears the region through mid morning Thursday and we see clearing and hot/muggy conditions through the afternoon hours.

Another round of showers/storms and severe weather potential arrives by early/mid evening, generally after 6/7PM or so in Siouxland. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, quarter sized hail, and an isolated or two are all possible. Heavy rain will also be a concern with locally heavy rain and localized flash flooding possible.

Seeing Thursday night’s severe weather threat winding down into the late overnight hours Thursday/early morning hours of Friday as a cold front begins to push through.

Scattered shower/storm chances look to linger into the afternoon Friday with the threat of an isolated strong/severe storm also lingering. Should though, see severe weather and shower/storm chances taper off the later we get into the afternoon and evening hours.
