Summer sounds and sizzling nights: Glastonbury’s Riverfront Series rocks on

The heat and humidity still lingered into the evening, but that didn’t stop people from heading to the park on Wednesday night for the Glastonbury Riverfront Music Series.

Music filled the air at Riverfront Park as families, couples, and friends came out for a night of live entertainment, food, and fun.

Every Wednesday night this summer, the free concert series brings the community together with performances from local bands and headlining tribute acts. Hosted by the Town of Glastonbury and the Connecticut River Valley Chamber of Commerce, the event has become a summer tradition in a short time.

“It breaks up the day,” said Lisa Zerio, Parks and Recreation Director for the Town of Glastonbury. “Come out in the evening and listen to some music, and meet some new people.”

Even under a heat advisory, the show went on with lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and even a few four-legged friends scattered across the field behind the Riverfront Community Center.

Concertgoers said the events are laid-back and enjoyable. It's a chance to bring your own food and drinks, unwind, and have fun in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Another added, “We look forward to it. We actually rearrange our vacation so that we can be here, we're leaving, you know, on vacation, and we come on Wednesday, we go on vacation, and we come back the next Wednesday to hear the next concert.”

To help guests beat the heat, the town opened the Riverfront Community Center for cooling and hydration. Zerio said the community center was available for anyone looking to cool off or refill their water bottles during the concerts.

And while the summer temperatures remained high, the crowd wasn’t fazed.

“We know as the sun goes down behind the trees, it gets cooler,” said one attendee.

Another simply said, “I love the heat. Bring it on.”

The concert series features performances throughout July and August, including major acts like River of Dreams, a Billy Joel tribute band, which will perform next Wednesday. Organizers say they’re already looking ahead to next year, with hopes of expanding the series.
