Try out sausage s'mores and peanut butter-chocolate lemonade at the Ohio State Fair
The folks who run the Ohio State Fair have released the list of new foods for 2025. It's a list that spans the range from "Why didn't someone think of this before?" to "Oh, that's why."
At the top of the latter category is a drink that just might put an end to Ohio's love of all things buckeye-flavored. Buckeye lemonade, from Miller Food Concessions, is traditional lemonade — sounds good so far, right? — infused with creamy peanut butter (because crunchy might have been a bit too over the top?) and chocolate.
It'll be unique, all right. A Pinterest search turned up exactly zero recipes for peanut butter-chocolate lemonade, let alone any cookies, cakes or other desserts that combine all three.
If you're not willing to go all the way out on the crazy lemonade limb, there's another item that sounds more palatable: The Original Lemon Shake-Up Sundae, from North American Food Service, includes soft-serve vanilla ice cream, lemon, crushed ice, sugar sparkles, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
"Fair nostalgia in every bite," fair organizers promise.
The Ohio State Fair runs from July 23 to Aug. 3 at the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds off Interstate 71 at 17th Avenue in Columbus. For the second year, the fair will include New Food Avenue between its midway and main stage.
Another item on the "huh?" side of the ledger is the Sausage S'more Skewer from Top Notch Concessions. It's a shish-kebab skewer of smoked sausage alternated with toasted marshmallows, drizzled with chocolate and sprinkled with graham-cracker crumbles.

The Ohio Poultry Association plans to unveil its 2025 lineup of deviled eggs July 15. The Dispatch got a behind-the-scenes look at its testing and selection. We've been sworn to secrecy, but they won't mind us saying that 2024's attention-getting bubble gum deviled eggs will at least be matched.
Thirty-one new foods are to be available for 2025. Overall, fairgoers will be able to choose from 57 deep-fried foods and 20 foods on a stick. (No info on what delicious items check both boxes.) It all will be served up by 134 vendors.
Back on New Food Avenue, not everything has been created solely for shock value. Here are some of the noteworthy additions:

Deep-Fried Taco: A 12-inch taco shell is loaded with chicken, buffalo chicken or ground beef, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and cheese. It's then wrapped, sealed, dipped in batter and deep-fried.

- Smashadillas from Fork'et Me Not are grilled quesadillas where the fillings include smash-burger beef, melted cheese, pickles and onions.
- Hot Cheetos Cheese Fries from Prowant Specialty Fries are an order of loaded fries with toppings of cheese sauce and crumbled Hot Cheetos.
- Thanksgiving sundaes from W.E. Enterprises are nothing to worry about; there's no ice cream involved. It's turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce served in a bowl sundae-style. You could get it all in a sandwich if you prefer.
- Moving on to noteworthy new desserts, Columbus legend Schmidt’s will feature a caramel apple cream puff as this year's fair flavor. The appropriately flavored filling includes apple chunks, and it's all topped with a caramel drizzle.
- BluRaz Crunch Funnel Cake from Prowant Specialty Co. is a traditional funnel cake topped with cream-cheese frosting and blue raspberry cookie crunch.
- Build-your-own sundaes from Molnar Concessions are built upon a base of cinnamon roll and ice cream.
