These hidden details not only reward loyal fans but also offer fresh layers of meaning that make each re-watch even more satisfying... and true fans re-watch, trust me!
Taylor Swift songs

The use of Taylor Swift’s music has always played a big role in The Summer I Turned Pretty, and season thre is no different. The teaser trailer alone set the tone with Daylight representing Belly's (Lola Tung) current relationship with Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), and Red subtly reintroducing the ever-complicated bond with Conrad (Christopher Briney).
As Taylor sings 'Loving him was red,' Conrad appears, hinting at the emotional turbulence Belly still feels. This color motif continues in the season itself. In her scenes with Conrad, Belly is often dressed in red, most notably her red sunglasses during a phone conversation with him via Jeremiah’s phone, and again when they reunite at the beach house.

In contrast, Belly wears a lot of blue when she’s with Jeremiah, visually echoing Taylor’s line from Red: 'Losing him was blue.' Later, during a pivotal moment when Belly learns that Jeremiah had been with someone else, Lacey, Taylor’s You’re Losing Me plays as she storms off in tears, underscoring the heartbreak with painful precision.
Jenny Han universe crossovers

Jenny's literary universe gets more than a few subtle shout outs. One standout moment comes when Belly finds an unfinished crossword puzzle in the beach house that Conrad had been working on. She completes it with the word 'still,' which fans immediately linked to P.S. I Still Love You, the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
In Belly’s college dorm, a poster for the musical Bye Bye Birdie hangs on the wall- a fun detail, considering that musical’s lead male character is also named Conrad. Elsewhere in her room, there’s a photo of Belly and Jeremiah dressed as Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky, the beloved couple from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, reinforcing the shared DNA between Jenny’s stories.
Visual similarities across Jenny’s shows

One scene at the Cousins Beach house may feel familiar to longtime fans of Jenny’s adaptations. When Belly falls and Conrad stands over her to help, it evokes strikingly similar scenes from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its spinoff, XO, Kitty.
With only the first two episodes released so far, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is already delivering a deeply nostalgic and an emotional ride for fans.

From colour symbolism to music cues and connections to Jenny’s other works, the show’s final chapter is layering in more meaning than ever.
The first two episodes dropped on July 16, with new episodes drop weekly on Prime Video through September 17, and it’s clear that there are still plenty more references, surprises, and heartbreaks to come.
