The Red Devils are heading to the States for some pre-season action, starting with a meeting with West Ham in New Jersey on Saturday.

The tour is part of the Premier League Summer Series and also sees Ruben Amorim’s side face Bournemouth on Wednesday and Everton on Sunday August 3.

New signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon are all among the travelling squad, but Maguire is not.

The England defender is staying at home due to a personal matter, although there remains hope that eh will link up with his teammates before the trip to the US ends.

Also not in the travelling squad are the transfer listed quartet of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony.

It has been made clear to the four players that they are not part of the first team plans under Amorim and moves are being pursued for all of them.

Marcus Rashford was the other player in the jettisoned party, but he is about to complete his loan move to Barcelona.

Lisandro Martinez has made the trip, but is still not fit and will not feature in the matches, in fact he is not even ready to train fully.

The Argentina international is still recovering from a serious knee injury and a return date is not yet confirmed.

The opening game of the Premier League season against Manchester United on August 17 is coming round fast and there is some hope that he could make it back for then.

Amorim will hope to build some momentum and confidence after a forgettable goalless draw with Leeds in their first pre-season game of the summer, in Stockholm on Saturday.

Cunha and Leon were bright sparks for hopeful United fans, but there was little else to write home about from Sweden.
