Deborah Harry, the school girl

Deborah Ann Harry was born on July 1, 1945, in Miami, Florida. Her birth name was Angela Trimble, but her adoptive parents changed it when they adopted her at three months of age.

1960s

In the late sixties, before finding success in music, Deborah worked both as a go-go dancer and a P l @ y b o y Bunny. Here we see Harry in her Bunny outfit in the late 1960s.

1968

Many may not know that this punk icon got her start in music with a folk-rock group.

At the end of the 1960s, Harry sang with The Wind in the Willows, which released an album in 1968 with Capitol Records.

1976

Harry soon realized the folk scene wasn't for her and tried out several other bands. Eventually, Debbie and Chris Stein founded the group Blondie. The band quickly gained popularity and performed regularly at CBGB in New York City. The rest is history.

1970s

Debbie and Chris were in a relationship from before they started Blondie. The pair met in 1974 when they both were in the band Stilletoes. They stayed together until 1989 when they broke up.

1977

As Blondie grew in popularity, Debbie Harry was a constant feature on the cover of different magazines.

Harry became the face of the band, and many thought her name was, in fact, Blondie rather than Debbie.

1978

This picture is of Harry backstage in 1978 at The Whiskey A Go-Go where Blondie was performing.

1979

Harry and Stein named the group Blondie since that is what men often yelled to Harry on the streets after she dyed her hair blonde.

1980

Harry probably knew she had really "made it" when Andy Warhol used her as a muse! In 1980 Warhol made several pieces taken from a single photo-shoot of Debbie done at the Factory.

1981

In 1981 Blondie took a year-long break, and Harry took time to focus on her solo career. The album 'KooKoo' came out in 1981, reaching number 25 in the US and number 6 in the UK.

1984

The band Blondie split up in 1982. Debbie Harry spent the rest of the 1980s working on her own music, which was well-received by fans.

1987

In 1987 Debbie tried her hand at acting. She landed a starring role in the comedy 'Forever, Lulu' in which she starred alongside Alec Baldwin. Here we see Harry with Matt Dylan and Richard Gere at an event in 1987.
