Trial of France's "worst pedophile" (February)

French surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec was placed on trial for allegedly sexually abusing 299 victims over the course of 15 years. His crimes, spanning from 1989 to 2004, have been called some of the worst in France's history.

The proceedings, which began on February 24, mark the largest child sexual abuse case ever tried in France. Survivors and prosecutors seek justice for the horrific abuse, which was uncovered through disturbing journals detailing his offenses.

UPMC Memorial Hospital shooting (February)

A Wyoming mother shot her four daughters before turning the gun on herself. She called 911 moments before committing the horrific act on February 10. 

Stabbing attack in Germany (January)

The stabbing attack in Aschaffenburg, Germany, occurred on January 22. A 28-year-old Afghan national was arrested following the incident, which resulted in the deaths of a two-year-old boy and a 41-year-old man.

Nashville school shooting (January)

Gunfire erupted at Antioch High School in Nashville on January 22, leaving multiple students injured. The suspect, a fellow student, turned the gun on himself before the police arrived.
