College football rankings: Big 12 teams in preseason US LBM Coaches Poll top 25

After seeing just one of its teams make the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, the Big 12 enters the 2025 college football season with some pressure on its shoulders.

The conference is still looking for its first national championship since the 2005 season, when Texas, now with the SEC, beat USC to claim the BCS title. Twenty years later, Arizona State — coming off its first College Football Playoff berth — is once again expected to lead the way in the Big 12 following its breakthrough debut a season ago.

Led by quarterback Sam Leavitt and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson on offense, Kenny Dillingham's Sun Devils are ranked No. 11 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll that was released on Monday, Aug. 4. Four other Big 12 teams found their name among the preseason top 25, while several others received votes.

Among that latter group, unranked Colorado received the second-fewest votes among five Big 12 teams. The 2025 season will be the toughest challenge yet for Deion Sanders in Boulder, with Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders off to the NFL with the Jaguars and Browns, respectively. One key question going into fall camp for the Buffaloes has been who will be the starting quarterback in Week 1 vs. Georgia Tech: Julian Lewis or Kaidon Salter?

Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt (10) looks to pass the ball against the Texas Longhorns during the first half of the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
