Michigan high school spring sports athletes are heading into the tournament phase of the season, with track athletes already completing their regional meets.

Other sports are also heading into the playoffs, as Saginaw-area athletes continue to put up some impressive performances.

But who had the best week? Check out the top Saginaw-area athletes from the past week, then vote for your favorite for the Athlete of the Week. Voting continues through 11 p.m. Thursday.

Savanna Bemiss, Millington

Savanna Bemiss set a school record for herself, then helped Millington set a team record with 66 goals this season. Bemiss scored five goals with one assist in a 9-1 win over Ithaca, then added her school-record 26th goal of the season in a 9-1 loss to Bad Axe. She followed with an assist in a 2-1 win over Unionville-Sebewaing, helping the Cardinals score their 66th goal of the season.

Nicholas Coleman, Heritage

Nicholas Coleman claimed a pair of wins in a Saginaw Valley League triangular, winning the 100 (:11.28) and 200 (:22.37), with a leg on the winning 800 relay. He followed with a title in the Division 1 regional meet at Traverse City Central, winning the 400 (:49.78) with a leg on the winning 800 relay.

Chloe Compau, Frankenmuth

Chloe Compau had a busy week for the Eagles, who clinched at least a share of the Tri-Valley Conference championship and won their 1,000th game in program history. Compau struck out 16 in a 5-2 win over Freeland, adding three RBIs and a homer. She homered again in a 15-5 win in Game 2, striking out eight to earn the win. In an 11-1 win over Hemlock, Compau struck out nine in a four-hit win. Compau also helped Frankenmuth win its won invitational. She threw a seven-inning no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Bay City Central, striking out 13 with no walks. She followed with two hits in an 8-7 win over Yale and two more in a 5-0 win over Shepherd.

Mckenzie Derusha, Valley Lutheran

Mckenzie Derusha swept the hurdles events at the Division 3 regional at Vassar. Derusha took first in the 100 hurdles (:16.41) and 300 hurdles (:49.37).

Tess Farkas, St. Louis

Tess Farkas earned a pair of regional titles at the Division 3 regional at Bath, claiming first places in the discus (105-2) and shot put (36-11).

Kaden Gerzseny, Freeland

Kaden Gerzseny had two hits in an 8-3 loss to Okemos, then drew four walks in a 10-4 loss to Okemos. He came through with two hits in each game of the Alpena Tournament, helping Freeland top Sault Ste. Marie, 13-3; Alpena, 9-1; and Cheboygan, 11-4. He earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Elliott Hays, Midland High

Elliott Hays scored a hat trick in an 8-0 win over Traverse City St. Francis, helping Midland High finished the regular season with an undefeated record. She also scored a goal in Midland’s 9-0 win over Flint Carman-Ainsworth.

Luke Herron, Caro

Luke Herron was a double winner at the Big Thumb Conference Meet, claiming the 1,600 (4:42.85) and 3,200 (10:37.67). He followed with a pair of titles at the Division 3 regional at Vassar, winning the 1,600 (4:33.44) and 3,200 (9:59.83).

Hailey Koch, Swan Valley

Swan Valley won five games during the week, including three at its own invitational. Hailey Koch had two hits and three RBIs in a 17-0 win over Bridgeport, then three hits, including a homer, in a 16-0 win. She started the invitational with five RBIs and three hits, including a homer in an 8-4 win over Unionville-Sebewaing. He added two hits in a 12-4 win over Bay City Western.

Sydney Kuhn, Swan Valley

Sydney Kuhn walked away from the Division 2 regional at Cadillac with three titles, taking first places in the 200 (:24.87), 400 (:54.03) and 300 hurdles (:45.33).

Thomas Larson, Alma

Thomas Larson claimed a pair of titles at the Division 2 regional at Cadillac. Larson won the 1,600 (4:23.25) and 3,200 (9:43.66).

Claire Long, Nouvel

Claire Long brought home three regional titles from the Division 4 regional at Fowler. Long won the 100 (:12.97), 200 (:27.24) and 400 (:59.58).

Paige Luneack, St. Louis

Paige Luneack earned wins in six St. Louis softball games during the week, beginning with a 14-0, 4-3 sweep of Sanford Meridian. Luneack threw a five-inning no-hitter in the opener with nine strikeouts, then struck out 11 in the nightcap, adding three hits on offense. In a 2-0 win over Standish-Sterling, Luneack struck out 10 and allowed three hits. She also had three hits on offense. Luneack added 12 strikeouts in a 13-4 win in the second game, adding three hits on offense. She struck out eighth in a 4-2 victory over Dansville before earning another win in a 15-0 victory over Beaverton.

Ruby Macheso, Midland Dow

Midland Dow claimed the Division 2 girls tennis regional title at Midland Community Center, with Ruby Macheso claiming the title at No. 3 singles. Macheso did not lost a game during the regional with three 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Zander Mapes, Breckenridge

Zander Maples claimed a pair of titles in the Division 4 regional at Fowler. Mapes won the shot put (48-6 ¾) and the discus (157-10).

Noah Reif, Michigan Lutheran Seminary

Noah Reif began with a two-hit game in Seminary’s 6 -5 win over Valley Lutheran, then had two hits and two RBIs in a 9-4 win over Carrollton. After getting two hits in a 13-2 win over Houghton Lake in the St. Louis Tourney opener, Reif threw a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to beat St. Louis, 3-0, for the tourney title.

Case Sanborn, Midland High

Case Sanborn had two hits in a 5-2 loss to Heritage and three more in a 6-4 loss to the Hawks. In a 9-8 win over Grand Haven, Sanborn hit a homer and drove in three runs, following with two hits in Midland’s 4-1 win over Grand Haven.

Brady Stephens, Swan Valley

Swan Valley went 4-0 during the week, with Brady Stephens leading the Vikings to the undefeated week. He had two hits, two RBIs and two runs in a 15-0 win over Bridgeport, then followed with a homer and two RBIs in the 15-0 nightcap win. He knocked out three hits in a 6-3 win over Laingsburg before driving in three in an 11-3 win in Game 2.

Boston Streng-Beougher, Swan Valley

Boston Streng-Beougher earned a pair of championships at the Division 2 regional at Cadillac. Streng-Beougher won the 200 (:23.53) and 400 (:49.88).

Maxwell Stoecker, Midland High

Maxwell Stoecker dominated the throwing events at the Division 1 regional at Traverse City Central. Stoecker won titles in the shot put (60-8) and discus (175-7).

Dakota Swift, Bullock Creek

Dakota Swift struck out eight and hit a homer in earning a 13-1 win over Beaverton, following with another homer in an 18-3 win over the Beavers. She also earned the win in Bullock Creek’s 10-9 win over Shepherd before homering in a 13-9 Game 2 loss to the Bluejays.

Lindsey Tausch, Hemlock

Lindsey Tausch dominated the No. 4 singles flight, helping Hemlock claim a Division 4 girls tennis regional championship. She was 3-0 during the regional without losing a game, going through the regional with three 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Truk TerBush, Millington

Truk TerBush set the Millington career hits record with four in a 15-1, 11-1 sweep of Montrose. The four-hit night gave TerBush 125 career hits. TerBush also scored four runs and stole five bases.

Max Volk, Chesaning

Max Volk helped Chesaning claim the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference win with a sweep of Ovid-Elsie. In a 2-0 win in Game 1, Volk had three hits, two stolen bases and an RBI, following with two hits in a 7-5 win over the Marauders. Volk also had four hits, four stolen bases, three runs, two RBIs and the win in a 10-4 victory over Ithaca.

Caleb Walker, Chesaning

Caleb Walker walked away from the Division 3 regional at Bath with a pair of titles, winning the 110 hurdles (:14.57) and 300 hurdles (:39.70).
