  • Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly seeking to "start afresh" at Forest Lodge after three difficult years in Adelaide Cottage.
  • Queen Elizabeth II passed away shortly after the Wales family moved to Windsor in 2022.
  • Middleton also underwent chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer while living there.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly ready to leave behind some difficult memories associated with their time in Adelaide Cottage. According to sources who spoke to Vanity Fair, the couple's recently revealed plans to move to Forest Lodge represent a desire to "start afresh."

Another source, who was quoted in a report by The Daily Mail, likewise called the relocation a "fresh start," adding, "they are looking forward to creating many happy memories in their new home and leaving some of the unhappier ones behind.”

William and Kate's "unhappier" memories no doubt include Queen Elizabeth II's death, which occurred shortly after they moved to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, as well as the dual cancer diagnoses of the Princess of Wales and her father-in-law, King Charles. The mother-of-three has since gone into remission.

“It's been dreadful," he said. "It's probably been the hardest year in my life.”

“I'm so proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done," William continued. "But, from a personal family point of view, it's been, yeah, it's been brutal.”

As for Middleton? Following her announcement that she was officially in remission, the Princess has opened up having “stoicism through treatment,” but added that after “the treatment’s done—then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal.’ But actually, the phase afterwards is really difficult.”
