Tesla Model Y “Juniper” Performance revealed: 0-100km/h in 3.5s, up to 580km of range
Shortly after introducing the “stretched” 6-seater Model Y L in China, Tesla has just revealed its performance-oriented variant for the new Model Y “Juniper”. This 5-seater electric SUV gets a more powerful drivetrain, larger battery, adaptive suspension and extra carbon fibre trim along with an extended rear spoiler.
At the time of writing, the new Model Y Performance is currently listed in several markets in Europe including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. However, it is still not available yet in our region including Malaysia.
What’s new with Tesla Model Y Performance?

If the current Tesla Model Y AWD Long Range isn’t powerful enough, the Performance variant boasts an upgraded dual-motor powertrain that delivers a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds, and it keeps on going up to a top-speed of 250km/h. The new EV also boasts redesigned battery cells which Tesla says can store more energy and offers an extensive WLTP-rated range of up to 580km on a single charge.
As a comparison, the previous Model Y Performance can do 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds, up to a stop speed of 250km/h. On a full charge, it had a WLTP-rated range of 514km on a single charge.
The new Tesla Model Y Performance rides on 21″ Arachnid 2.0 wheels and it also offers a redesigned bumpers for improved aerodynamics. Like its predecessor, there’s also a carbon fibre rear spoiler which is now extended for lower drag and optimal grip at high speeds.

Besides being able to go fast, the new Performance model also gets an adaptive suspension with multi-link suspension paired with electronic, continuously variable damping and it comes with multiple drive modes.
Similar to the Tesla Model 3 Performance, it comes with sports seats for the front row which offers backrest adjustment, powered controls including heated and ventilated seats. There are also carbon fibre trims on the interior as well.

Another upgrade for the interior is a slightly larger 16″ central Quad HD display, while the second row still gets an 8″ touch screen panel. The EV also gets a 15-speaker system and a subwoofer.
Similar to the Model 3 Performance, the Model Y Performance model also gets the “Performance” badge on the boot.

In terms of charging, it supports up to 250kW of DC fast charging at a Tesla Supercharger and users can get up to 243km of range in 15 minutes.
The new Tesla Model Y AWD Performance model sits lower, and it is slightly heavier and longer than the AWD Long Range model. It weighs 2,033kg and has a length of 4,796mm and a height of 1,611mm. The ground clearance is lower too at 151mm.
As a comparison, the dual-motor Tesla Model Y AWD Long Range weighs 1,997kg. It is 4,790mm long, 1,624mm tall and has a ground clearance of 167mm.
