The venue combines a retro and futuristic feel all in one. At the ground level, there are numerous Tesla Superchargers and two massive movie screens. On the roof, guests can grab a meal at the diner.

Elon Musk first posted about the idea on X in 2018 -- back when it was still Twitter, before he purchased the social media platform.

"Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates and & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA," the post read.

Drivers pulling up in Cybertrucks and Model Ys didn't even know what time it would open on Monday. They just couldn't wait to get in.

The futuristic diner looks like a drive-in movie theater with massive screens, car charging stations, and food.

"I'm super excited to see Optimus. They've got the robot. From what I've seen, based on social media, he's serving up popcorn. We'll see what we can get," said James T. from Cerritos.

Sure enough, when Eyewitness News Reporter Sophie Flay got inside, she saw Tesla's Optimus robot serving popcorn to guests. People could hand it a popcorn bag, and the robot scooped popcorn from a machine into the bag and handed it back. Optimus even posed for photos and waved at guests.

The diner is slated to be open 24/7. Residents in the neighborhood say that's a big draw for them.

"It's going to be open 24/7, so I think that's pretty cool," said Josh Becerra. "The only concern is just the traffic in the neighborhood, just getting in and out where I live at."

Becerra says he's not concerned about noise because he was told the sound from the movie screens will only connect to Tesla speakers. He did say he expects some protesters.

"I feel like people are going to be pretty respectful for the most part. I don't think it's going to get super crazy," Becerra said. "I feel like people are just going to voice their opinions about what they think about it, but other than that, I'm not too concerned."

Tesla said if the diner is a success, the company plans to open them across the country.
