City confirms opening day for Tri-Cities 2nd Costco. One hurdle left for $25M store
Tri-Cities Costco members can mark their calendars: The new Richland store is expected to open Aug. 8.
The city of Richland confirmed it's been informed by Costco Wholesale Co. that it intends to open Aug. 8, a date marked on its contractor's schedule.
There is a catch: Costco can't open until it gets a certificate of occupancy for its new building, 3125 Queensgate Drive. It hadn't received it yet as of June 26.
"It is possible they will get one in time to open August 8, but there is work that still needs to be performed," the city told the Tri-City Herald..
Costco has not directly confirmed its plans to the Tri-City Herald. However, it included Richland among seven stores in North America that would open in August.

Construction crews have the finish line in sight at the construction site of the Tri-Cities' second Costco Wholesale store in Richland.
Issaquah-based Costco selected a site at the former Chiawana Orchards in Richland's Queensgate area in 2023.
It finalized a 55-year deal to lease the land from the Washington Department of Natural Resources in November 2024. Its contractor, Lydig Construction, broke ground immediately on the $25 million store and fuel station.

The $25 million project includes a store fueling station and several pads for retailers who want to be close to the main store.
The Richland store will provide needed relief to Tri-Cities shoppers. The Kennewick store is considered overburdened by serving a community with more than 300,000.
The Richland store is 20% larger than its sibling and has 24% more parking spots.
In addition to Richland, Costco expects to open locations in The Villages, Florida; Allen, Texas; Spring Valley, Nev.; Rimouski, Quebec; Newmarket, Ontario and Guadalajara, Mexico in August.
The wholesale giant operates 905 warehouse stores and reported about $250 billion in net sales in 2024, or about $276 million per store.
The main store will be 182,700 square feet and cost about $25 million to build, according to building permits.
In addition to the store, the 12,300-square-foot fueling station will have 32 gas pumps with a construction value of $2.2 million.
