Local contestant on ‘The Voice’ returns for final round
DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) – NBC’s “The Voice” welcomed back a local contestant for the season’s final round on Monday.
Two weeks ago, America watched Jaelen Johnston of Derby perform during the Playoffs portion of the show. His coach, Kelsea Ballerini, then had to choose two of her five team members to move on to the Lives Round of the show. Unfortunately, Johnston did not make the cut.
Last week, during part two of the Playoffs, “The Voice” announced that each coach would be able to bring back one of their team members for the Lives. Ballerini chose to “Super Save” Johnston.
“I don’t even have words for that. Honestly, it was definitely a crazy feeling for me to be her Super Save pick,” Johnston said. “Gave me a little bit more confidence in the competition.”

Johnston sang “I Drive Your Truck” by Lee Brice during the semifinals.
“You just made – I know your momma’s here somewhere – your momma so proud,” Ballerini smiled. “You did. You made your cousin, who is looking down from heaven right now, so proud. You’re making country music proud already. I’m so honored to be your coach. You just – there you are!”

Voting
During the Lives Round of the competition, the remaining contestants compete against each other during a live broadcast. Instead of the coaches choosing a winner, America will vote to save their favorite artists until one is named the winner.
America can vote for their favorite contestant online or through the app. Voting begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 12 and lasts until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13. This is for the top 12 artists.
The top five artists will compete on May 19. Voting will also begin at 7 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.
At the end of the competition, one artist will be named “The Voice” and receive the grand prize of a recording contract.
