Sheamus reveals his true thoughts on being left off of WrestleMania 41 - as the WWE legend details the 'Holy Grail' he is chasing inside the ring

  • Sheamus admitted he was 'gutted' to not feature at WrestleMania last month
  • The former WWE champion revealed his pitch for the event that was rejected

The four-time world champion returned to the ring last year after he was forced to take an extended hiatus following a serious shoulder injury that put an end to his alliance with Ridge Holland and Pete Dunne.

In November at Survivor Series: War Games he competed in triple threat against Ludwig Kaiser and defending champion Bron Breakker, ultimately coming up short with the Intercontinental title on the line.

Sheamus returned at the Royal Rumble but was not featured at WrestleMania 41 as his former rival John Cena made history by defeating Cody Rhodes in the main event to surpass Ric Flair's long-standing record of the most world championship reigns.

Speaking to Mail Sport this week ahead of WWE's return to the U.K and Ireland in August, Sheamus explained that he was disappointed not to feature at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

'I was gutted that I wasn’t at Mania,' he admitted.

WWE legend Sheamus revealed he was 'gutted' not to feature at WrestleMania 41 last month

The Irishman insisted that he is 'more passionate' about performing in WWE than he has ever been as he enters his 15th year on the main roster

'The last appearance that I had was at the Rumble. I want to be in the mix. I want to be there. I’m more passionate now about my job than I ever have been.

'Some of the guys are like, "You’ve been at so many WrestleMania’s, so it’s okay."

'But it’s not okay. I love what I do. I love going out there in front of a crowd. I love putting on banger after banger. I love that intensity.

He continued: 'I love setting the bar so high that everybody including the main event guys who have months and months to prepare are trying to catch up with me.'

'Until the wheels come off and I can’t do it anymore I want to go out there.

'I don’t want to miss anything and I don’t want to miss a WrestleMania. It was tough. I’m not going to lie, it was really really hard.'

While he did not feature on either night of the showcase of the immortals, Sheamus did pitch himself to be involved in the Fatal four-way Intercontinental title match that saw Dominik Mysterio capture his first main roster singles title in WWE.

The belt remains the only title that continues to elude the Irishman since he debuted on the main roster 15 years ago.

Sheamus revealed he had hoped to be involved in the Intercontinental title Fatal four-way on Night Two of the event

The title remains the only main roster championship Sheamus hasn't captured in his glittering career

'I had pitched to hopefully get in the Intercontinental title stuff again,' the 2012 Royal Rumble winner revealed.

'They’re probably tired about me talking about it but that’s the one title that I have left to become the first ever ultimate Grand Slam Champion in WWE.'

'That’s the Holy Grail, that’s it. But I wasn’t happy sitting at home. I don’t want to miss WrestleMania I don’t want to go there and not be part of the biggest show of the year.

'It’s tough for me. I don’t care, if you have passion for what you do you don’t want to miss that.'
