The second Grand Slam tournament of 2025 gets underway on Sunday as the world’s best tennis players fight for a major title at Roland-Garros.
Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek head into this year’s French Open as the defending champions in men’s singles and women’s singles respectively.

Raducanu will lock horns with China’s world No.42 Wang Xinyu in her first match at the French Open this year.
The British No.2 heads into Roland-Garros unseeded due to her current world ranking of world No.43. She needed to be in the top 32 to be seeded.
Raducanu and Wang have only met once before on the WTA Tour – back in 2021 – which the Chinese star won 6-1 6-7 7-5 after breaking the Briton seven times during a last-16 clash at the Linz Open in Austria.
Defending champion Swiatek is projected to face the winner of Raducanu vs Wang in the second round in what could be a blockbuster showdown.
Who does Jack Draper face in French Open first round?

Draper is set for a clash with Italian world No.68 Mattia Bellucci in his opening match at Roland-Garros this year.
The 23-year-old is seeded fifth in the men’s singles after a brilliant season so far on the ATP Tour which saw him win the Indian Wells title in March.
Interestingly, Draper has never been past the first round at the French Open but is set for a much deeper run this time around after making significant improvements on the clay surface and finishing as a runner-up in Madrid.
Who does Novak Djokovic face in French Open first round?

Djokovic, a three-time champion at Roland-Garros, gets started against American world No.99 Mackenzie McDonald on the red dirt in Paris.
There are rumours circulating that this year could be Djokovic’s final appearance at the French Open before his retirement from the sport.
The Serbian tennis legend, who had his 38th birthday today, is seeded sixth in the men’s singles this year, one spot below British No.1 Draper.
What about Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Katie Boulter?

Alcaraz and Sinner are widely regarded as the two biggest favourites to land the French Open men’s singles title this year.
Alcaraz faces 23-year-old Italian Giulio Zeppieri while Sinner takes on Arthur Rinderknech in their respective first-round matches.
Boulter, meanwhile, the British No.1 in women’s singles, has been drawn to face a qualifier in her opening match, which is yet to be decided.
The 28-year-old recently landed the first clay title of her career at the Clarins Open in France.
Other British women in action include Sonay Kartal and Jodie Burrage, who will lock horns with Erika Andreeva and Danielle Collins respectively.
In the men’s singles, British star Jacob Fearnley is set for an intriguing showdown with Stan Wawrinka and Cameron Norrie faces Daniil Medvedev.
