Another major US restaurant chain closes more than 20 locations

Colorado-based restaurant chain Noodles & Company has announced it will be closing up to 21 of its locations across the US. In its first quarter earnings report earlier this month, the fast-casual business revealed its plans to shut 13 to 17 company-owned restaurants and four franchised ones (Picture: Google Maps)

The exact locations have yet to be revealed. Currently, the chain has 380 company-owned restaurants and 89 franchises dotted across 31 states (Picture: Noodles and Company)

A Noodles & Company spokesperson told USA TODAY they are not currently able to share which restaurants will be closing. 'Many of these decisions are still in progress,' they said, adding: 'Our focus remains on operating a strong, healthy restaurant base that allows us to deliver the best possible experience to our guests' (Picture: Noodles and Company)

The news comes during a challenging time for the business, which first opened its doors in 1995. Earlier this year, significant stock price slumps saw it almost delisted from the Nasdaq stock index (Picture: Noodles and Company)

Despite these worries, the food chain says it plans to add two new company-owned locations sometime in 2025. Drew Masden, the company's CEO since March 2024, has been making changes to combat and reduce further financial issues to allow for such ventures (Picture: Google Maps)

From updating the menu with new dishes to focusing more on marketing, the chain is hoping to improve its fortunes. It reported that revenue in the first quarter of 2025 was up 2% from the same period in 2024, rising to $123.8 million from $121.4 million (Picture: Noodles and Company)
