Sunday's third round resulted in half the field being cut, with only 15 teams advancing to the final round. Come Monday night, an individual medalist will be crowned and the match-play bracket will be set.

Defending national champion Auburn leads by four shots after three rounds of stroke play, and Ole Miss junior Michael La Sasso has a two-shot lead over Texas A&M senior Phichaksn Maichon for medalist honors. Both players are finalists for the Haskins Award, and voting closes Monday.

Eight match play teams set

Only eight teams have a chance to win a national title, including defending champion Auburn.

The Tigers, along with Arizona State, 2023 champ Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Virginia and Ole Miss make up the eight teams who will make match play, which begins Tuesday morning.

Luke Clanton misses putt to force team playoff

The top amateur in the world had a birdie putt on the par-4 ninth to tie Ole Miss in the team standings, but he missed it just low. He tapped in for par, but Florida State will finish a shot out of match play at 12 over, one behind Ole Miss.

For Clanton, it was also the conclusion of his stellar amateur career. But the defending runners-up won't be back in match play.

Michael La Sasso going to win individual title

The junior from Ole Miss finishes at 11 under, and though it's not official yet, he's going to win the NCAA individual title. La Sasso is the second winner from Ole Miss to capture the individual title, joining Braden Thornberry in 2017.

Matthew Kress holes out for eagle

Florida is safely inside the cut line, but Matthew Kress added an exclamation point on his final shot of the round, holing out for eagle.

Cut line drama

Virginia is in at 9 under, and Florida State is tied with the Cavaliers and has a few holes to play. Meanwhile, Ole Miss just dropped to 10 over and, as it stands, is on the outside looking in depending on what happens down the stretch.

The top-six teams seem set: Auburn, Arizona State, Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas.

Phichaksn Maichon posts 9 under

The senior at Texas A&M is in the house at 9 under. Michael La Sasso just birdied the par-5 sixth to move to 11 under, so he has a three-shot lead with two holes to play.

La Sasso has to play two of the five hardest holes to finish his round, so if he wants to win a national title, he'll have to earn it. What more could you want?

Match play update

Calling it now: Auburn, Arizona State, Florida and Oklahoma, the only teams under par and with six shots between them and Oklahoma State in fifth, will make match play. Oklahoma State is nine shots above the cut line, but there's still plenty of shifting that can happen.

Koivun closing in on Tour card

Auburn sophomore Jackson Koivun sits at 6 under for the tournament with 10 holes to play and solo fourth. Reminder: a top-10 finish earns Koivun a Tour card at day's end.

Speaking of, David Ford officially has clinched his card by finishing first in the PGA Tour University Class of 2025.

Phichaksn Maichon takes individual lead

We have a new individual leader at Omni La Costa. A pair of double bogeys from Michael La Sasso has dropped him to 9 over, and Phichaksn Maichon has taken a two-shot lead at 11 under with seven holes to play.

Separation at the top

It's early, but the top-six teams have somewhat distanced themselves early in the round. Texas is at 1 over, and the next closest team is Florida State at 9 over in seventh.

Meanwhile, five shots separate seventh and 14th. There's bound to be plenty more shuffling, but for those teams out in front, they have a great advantage.

Phichaksn Maichon closes gap on Michael La Sasso

Two birdies on his first two holes, and Phichaksn Maichon has gotten within one of Michael La Sasso, who also birdied his first hole. Those two are five shots in front of the closest chasers, so it seems like a two-horse race for medalist honors.

Individual leaders starting on back nine

What to watch for Monday

Happy Memorial Day. The match-play bracket will be set once play concludes this evening. Today is the race for the individual title, with Ole Miss' Michael La Sasso leading the way, and Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon two shots behind.

Then, it's the race for the top-eight spots in match play. Only five shots separate eighth and 15th, so there could be plenty of movement for teams trying to get to Tuesday.

Wake Forest beats Georgia Tech for final spot in Monday's round

With a winning score of 2 under, Wake Forest topped Georgia Tech (1 under) in the five-hole aggregate playoff to advance into the final round.

There will still be Yellow Jacket representation on Monday, as defending individual champ Hiroshi Tai and Carson Kim advanced to the final round as individuals.
