30. Venezuela

Venezuela produced 30.0 tonnes of gold in 2023. One of the largest gold mines in the country is the Brisa mine in Bolívar state. Besides legitimate enterprises, there are many mining operations in eastern Venezuela that function illegally.
28. Chile

In 2023, Chile produced 35.4 tonnes of gold. Pictured is the San José gold mine in Copiapó. In 2010, a cave-in at the mine trapped 33 miners underground for 69 days. All were rescued.
26. Argentina

Argentina produced 39.1 tonnes of gold in 2023. The Cerro Negro mine in Santa Cruz province, southern Argentina, is one of the largest gold mines in the world.
24. Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea produced 41.3 tonnes of gold in 2023. Pictured is the Tinaroo Dam at Ok Tedi Mine, the longest running open-pit copper, gold, and silver mine in the country.

Zimbabwe produced 46.6 tonnes of gold in 2023. Freda Rebecca gold mine, located 55 miles (90 km) northeast of capital Harare, is the biggest gold mine in the country.

Bolivia produced 48.4 tonnes of gold in 2023. Tipuani, a region in northern Bolivia, is known for its rich goldfields. However, due to the consequences of intense gold mining, both legal and illegal, Tipuani is experiencing considerable environmental damage.
20. Ivory Coast

Côte d'Ivoire, or the Ivory Coast, produced 51.5 tonnes of gold in 2023. Pictured is the Agbaou gold mine near Divo, a city in the southern reaches of this West African nation.
18. Guinea

Guinea, a coastal country in West Africa, produced 64.9 tonnes of gold in 2023. The Lefa mine, located in the center of the country in Faranah region, is another huge gold mine.
16. Sudan

Despite the country being embroiled in conflict, Sudan produced 72.5 tonnes of gold in 2023. Pictured is the Hassai gold mine, located 497 miles (800 km) northeast of the capital Khartoum.
14. Brazil

In 2023, Brazil produced 86.3 tonnes of gold. Peixoto de Azevedo (pictured) was the ancient location of the Panará indigenous people. They were expelled during the 19th-century gold rush in the region. Garimpeiro (independent) prospectors have settled the area, leading to deforestation and pollution from mercury washing pools.
11. Mali

10. Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan produced 119.6 tonnes of coal in 2023. Pictured is the Almalyk mining plant, considered one of the largest industrial enterprises in the country. It produces 90% of Uzbekistan's silver and 20% of its gold.

In 2023, Peru produced 128.8 tonnes of gold. Pictured is La Rinconada gold mine. At 16,700 feet (5,100 m), La Rinconada, in the country's Puno region, is the highest permanent settlement in the world.
