Replay: Scottie Scheffler takes lead on Ben Griffin after Round 3 of 2025 Memorial Tournament

Ben Griffin missed a final putt for par, handing sole possession of first place to Scottie Scheffler entering the final day of the 2025 Memorial Tournament.

Griffin's putt from about 3 feet out just missed, giving him a bogey on the final hole where moments earlier Scheffler had birdied to close a strong finish to the third round at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Griffin opened the day at 7 under, tied with Nick Taylor for the lead, but now will begin the final round one shot behind the leader.

Taylor is alone in third, three shots behind Scheffler.

Torrid close to day pulls Scottie Scheffler even at top

After shooting par on each of his 13 holes in the third round, Scottie Scheffler closed with a flourish. He birdied 14, 15, 17 and then 18, the final one drawing a roar from the crowd as he moved to 8 under par and a first-place tie with Ben Griffin.

It's the first career bogey-free round at Muirfield Village Golf Club for Scheffler.

Jordan Spieth ends day with consecutive bogies

Spieth ended the day right where he started: 3 under and a few strokes off of the lead. Spieth was 5 under after birdies on 14 and 15, but bogies on 17 and 18 dropped him back to 3 under and a tie for fourth.

Griffin still leads at 8 under through 16 holes, but Scottie Scheffler's birdie on 17 has him within one stroke.

Ben Griffin pulling away once again

After finishing with a bogey on four consecutive holes, Griffin has found himself again as his third round comes to a close. Griffin broke the streak by shooting par on hole 13 and now has birdied both 14 and 15 to get to 8 under, two strokes ahead of second-place Scottie Scheffler who is one hole ahead of him.

Nick Taylor rebounds with impressive eagle

What has been a tough day for Taylor, who entered the day as co-leader at 7 under, just took a positive turn. Taylor double bogied the 12th hole, then followed with a bogey to drop to 2 under only to turn in a highlight on 14.

Taylor sunk a 118-yard shot for an eagle, getting back to 4 under and sole possession of fourth place. He's two shots behind Griffin, his playing partner.

Scottie Scheffler birdies after 13 straight pars

Scottie Scheffler, the top golfer in the world, finally broke his string of 13 straight pars by making a birdie on the 14th hole in the Memorial Tournament. He sank a 10-foot putt to get to 5 under, one shot behind leader Ben Griffin.

Jordan Spieth within one shot of Ben Griffin

Spieth opened the day 3 under, got to 4 under, dropped back to 2 under and now has bogied three straight holes to improve to 5 under. He's now one shot behind Griffin, who is through 12 holes while Spieth just finished on 15.

Nick Taylor continues to drop on leaderboard

Taylor opened the day tied with Griffin for first place at 7 under but has only headed in the wrong direction since teeing off. Taylor bogied the first and second holes to drop to 5 under and remained there until hole 12, where he ran into trouble.

Taylor's first shot landed in the water and, after the penalty stroke, missed a 9-foot putt and needed to tap one in from three feet to salvage a double bogey. He's now tied for fourth at 3 under through 12 holes.

Add another bogey to Ben Griffin's slide

He's led for the entire day, but Griffin continues to drift closer to the pack after needing a 6-foot putt to salvage a bogey on hole No. 12. Griffin was 10 under when he birdied the eighth hole, his third consecutive birdie, only to now bogey four straight holes.

He's now at 6 under, two strokes ahead of Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler.

Watch Mackenzie Hughes' 71-foot shot for birdie

Mackenzie Hughes will leave the third round with one highlight to remember. After hitting his first shot 193 yards to the right fairway, 71 feet from the 16th hole, Hughes dropped in a birdie on his second shot.

Hughes then bogeyed the next hole to drop to 4 over for the afternoon after posting four bogies and two double bogies.

Ben Griffin's slide continues

Any thought that Ben Griffin might run away with the Memorial Tournament has ended. Griffin bogeyed his third straight hole to see his lead slip to two shots over Nick Taylor. Griffin hit his tee shot on the par-5 11th hole into the sand and his second shot landed in the rough. He was unable to make an 11-foot par for putt.

A couple of big names are three shots behind Griffin. Scottie Scheffler has parred all 12 holes. Jordan Spieth has the opposite kind of round, littered with bogeys and pars, but is also at 4 under.

Ben Griffin bogeys again to come back to the field

The Memorial leader had his second consecutive bogey when he hit his approach shot into the bunker and missed a 17-foot par putt to fall to 8 under. His lead over Nick Taylor is down to three shots.

Ben Griffin has first bogey to reduce his lead

Ben Griffin played the first eight holes in 3 under to take a five-shot lead in the Memorial. He finally had a slip-up when he bogeyed the ninth hole. He hit his second shot into the rough and missed a 9-foot par putt. Griffin leads Nick Taylor by four shots after the front nine.

Keegan Bradley climbs leaderboard with strong finish

After starting the day 1 over, Bradley was back to even when he birdied hole No. 14. It started a run for Bradley, who closed the third round with a flourish by adding birdies on 15, 16 and 18 to finish at 4 under for the day.

He's now tied with Jordan Spieth and Sepp Straka for fourth, six spots behind the leader, Griffin.

One-handed putt highlight of tough day for Tony Finau

The native of Lehi, Utah, opened Round 3 tied for 18th at 1 over but finished the day 5 over, shooting a 73 to drop to a tie for 32nd. The day wasn't without a highlight moment, though, and it came on the 15th hole.

Staring at a 9-foot putt for birdie, Finau sunk it while holding the club with just one hand. Watch the clip below:

He is currently tied for 32nd.

Ben Griffin increases lead in Round 3

Griffin's first birdie of the day happened on the sixth hole, and he followed with another to improve to 9 under as he approaches the turn. Griffin opened the day tied with Nick Taylor at 7 under, but Taylor opened with consecutive bogies and has since shot par on five straight holes to remain alone in second at 5 under.

Up-and-down round for Jordan Spieth at the Memorial

Jordan Spieth has already had an interesting third round at Muirfield Village. He has played eight holes and has only two pars. He has birdied the first, fifth and seventh holes and bogeyed the second, fourth and eighth holes. He is tied for fifth.

Sepp Straka fires 66 to move into contention

In the second round of the Memorial, Sepp Straka had three double-bogeys, including two on par-5s, and was able to salvage a 1 over 73. In the third round, Straka eliminated the mistakes and shot a 6 under 66 that very well could stand as the best of the day, given the windy conditions at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

"I had trouble yesterday in the rain hitting my driver in the fairway and got in some tough positions," Straka said. "It's easy to get out of position on this golf course. Anytime you're on a tee, you can either make a double or you can make a birdie.

"It's one of those courses where there's a lot of volatility, and today I executed pretty well, judged my lies very well and judged the wind very well, which I did not do the first two days."Straka had six birdies and did not have a bogey. He finished his round with a 12½-foot birdie on the difficult 18th hole. He is 3 under for the tournament and tied for fifth.

Straka is having a career year. The Austrian, who lives in Alabama, has won twice this year and is ninth in the world rankings.

Maverick McNealy moves into top 10

He started the day at 3-over par, tied for 31st, but Maverick McNealy is making a move up the leaderboard. McNealy is 4 under for the day and notched consecutive birdies on holes No. 13 and 14, dropping him to 1 under and a tie for 10th place.

McNealy is through 16 holes in the third round.

Ben Griffin takes two-stroke lead after two holes

Griffin opened the day tied with Nick Taylor at 7 under for the lead, but he's now two strokes ahead after Taylor has bogied each of the first two holes. Griffin has two pars as Taylor has dropped to 5 under, alone in second place.

Michael Kim describes nightmare day of struggle

Michael Kim reeled his round back in after it got off to a limping 4 over start through four holes. He finished with a 74 that probably felt more like a 70. "This course today is ... just not fun haha," Kim posted on X. "Wasn't sure if I was going to break 85 after the first four holes. Gotta hit the fairway or chop out rough, mud ball, changing winds, quick greens. Pretty proud of bringing it back to a 74."

Nick Taylor bogeys opening hole as Ben Griffin takes lead

Griffin did what he did for most of Friday's competition, shooting par on the opening hole to stay at 7 under, but his playing partner wasn't so lucky. Taylor's 24-foot putt for par on the first hole missed by two feet, dropping him to 6 under for the day and one stroke behind Griffin.

Sam Burns moves into third-place tie

After starting the day tied for fifth at 3 under, Burns sunk a 7-foot putt on the second hole for birdie, dropping him to 4 under and a tie with Akshay Bhatia and Scottie Scheffler for third.

Memorial leaders have teed off

Memorial co-leaders Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin have teed off in the third round. Taylor's opening tee shot landed in the fairway. Griffin's ended in a bunker. Both golfers start the day at 7 under.

Jordan Spieth opens with a birdie

He opened the day tied for fifth at 3 under, and Spieth opened the third round with a birdie to drop to 4 under and briefly tie with Scottie Scheffler for fourth place.

That lasted for one hole, as Spieth bogeyed the second hole when he missed a 10-foot putt for par, dropping him back to 3 under overall and even for the day in the early going.

Top 10 about to get third round underway

The top of the leaderboard is about to get busy. Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley, both tied for eighth entering the day at 2 under, are due to get their days started momentarily. Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin, tied for first at 7 under, are scheduled to tee off at 3:10 p.m.

Sepp Straka birdies 11 to drop to 3 under par for day

The leaders through the first two days are largely still to tee off, but Sepp Straka is enjoying the best third round so far. He started the day tied for 31st at 3 over but is now back to par after notching three birdies through the first 14 holes.

Muirfield Village playing tough in third round

The leaders won't tee off for a while in the third round of the Memorial, but the golf course is already playing difficult for the non-contenders. Only eight golfers on the course now are under par for the day. Twenty-five are over par. Sepp Straka is 2 under for best current round of the day. Denny McCarthy, who lost in a playoff two years ago and said he likes the course, is 6 over for the day through 10 holes. We're getting 15 mph-wind at Muirfield Village and there are gusts that are considerably stronger.

Hideki Matsuyama's quick day is over

The first golfer of the day has completed his solo round. Matsuyama shot a 2-over-par 74 to sit at 7 over through three days, putting him in a tie for 50th on the leaderboard.

Quiet start to third day of Memorial Tournament

Hideki Matsuyama is making quick work of his solo round and is through 14 holes in a little more than two hours. He's 1 over par, making him 7 over for the tournament.

After him, the next two players to tee off are only through nine holes. Wyndham Clark is 2 over and Cameron Young is 3 over. The only player under par through the early going is Stephan Jaeger, who is 1 under through six and three over for the tournament.

Sun shining at Muirfield Village; Imagine that

Hideki Matsuyama is first off the tee at 10 a.m. and the 2014 Memorial winner from "The Land of the Rising Sun" is probably glad there is some sun today. Matsuyama, the only Memorial winner from Japan, goes off alone, which means no five-hour round for him.

Barbara Nicklaus, the "first lady of golf" is the 2025 Memorial Tournament honoree. The wife of Jack Nicklaus is the first non-golfer among 84 prior recipients.

“The Memorial Tournament has held such a special place in our family’s life,” she said last June when the honor was announced. “It’s been wonderful to walk side-by-side with Jack and to watch his dream become our reality over the years. Looking back at the list of those who have been honored since 1976, I can’t express how humbled I am to join this elite group that I have looked up to and respected for so long.”

Born Barbara Jean Bash, she graduated from North High in 1957 and studied nursing at OSU. She met Jack during their first week on Ohio State's campus as freshmen and were married July 23, 1960. Five years later, the couple moved to North Palm Beach, Florida, where they raised five children: Jack II, Steve, Nan, Gary and Michael.Among other honors, Barbara has received the 2015 Bob Jones Award, given by the United States Golf Association, and the 2019 PGA of America Distinguished Service Award.
