All 27 movies that have just dropped on US Netflix

Based on the hit 1990 novel A Very Private Gentleman by the English author Martin Booth, this stylish espionage thriller stars George Clooney in the lead. There are flashes of Bond here, but former rock 'n' roll photographer-turned-director Anton Corbijn takes a much more relaxed approach to this spy drama. It's cool, it's classy and it's sexy. In part due to the screenwriting abilities of Rowan Joffe (Brighton Rock, Tin Star) (Picture: Focus/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Barbarian (2022)

The American (2010), Barbarian (2022), Bee Movie (2007), The Birds (1963), The Blues Brothers (1980), The Devil's Own (1997), Dune (2021), The Equalizer (2014), Family Plot (1976), Focus (2015), Frenzy (1972), The Great Outdoors (1988), Hitchcock (2012), Hop (2011), The Legend of Zorro (2005), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Neighbors (2014), Now You See Me (2013), Now You See Me 2 (2016), The Nutty Professor (1996), Rear Window (1954), The Theory of Everything (2014), The Town (2010), U-571 (2000), Us (2019), Vertigo (1958)

Zach Cregger's sleeper hit horror is one of the best indie films of the past few years and works a little like The Shining. But instead of huge eerie mountaintop hotels, it's AirBnBs. There's a creepy twist, all sort of scares and some fine performances by stars Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long (Picture: 20th Century/Studios/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)

Bee Movie (2007)

For the kids, hitting Netflix from June 1, is the cleverly-titled DreamWorks animation Bee Movie. It's a fun and easy-going comedy that raises a few smiles and laughs, mostly due to the voice talent on board (Jerry Seinfield leads a cast including the likes of Ray Liotta, John Goodman and Rip Torn). Seinfield actually co-wrote it, so you'd be forgiven for thinking it might've been more amusing. That said, for a cartoon about bees, it's a perfectly adequate way to spend 91 minutes (Picture: Dreamworks/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Birds (1963)

Time for a winged classic now. If you've never seen this truly unique and creepy anti-avian thriller, it's time to rectify the situation. Just be mindful that it may put you off birdwatching for life. The Birds, starring Tippi Hedren, is one of half a dozen of the legendary director Sir Alfred Hitchcock's famous thrillers to hit Netflix this month. We'll tell you about the other five here in this round-up... (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Blues Brothers (1980)

John Landis' musical-comedy is a lot of people's favourite movie. There's a sizeable portion of the population out there who not only know every word of every lyric of every song in this Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi-starring hit - they know every line of the script too. This Chicago-set film was developed from popular sketches that Ackroyd and Belushi used to perform on Saturday Night Live (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Devil's Own (1997)

An interesting and watchable movie that doesn't fully work, there's still enough intrigue and set pieces to make this Alan J. Pakula film worth watching. Even if you don't really like it, it'll have been worth sticking it on just to hear Brad Pitt's woeful Irish accent. In the film, as a favor to a pal, an American police sergeant played by Harrison Ford allows a visiting Irishman (Brad Pitt and his dodgy accent) to stay with him and his family. Which turns out to be a mistake when it transpires that Pitt's character may well be a dangerous IRA terrorist (Picture: Ken Regan/Columbia/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Dune (2021)

For many fans of Frank Herbert's epic 1965 science fiction novel, David Lynch's 1984 adaptation was something of a disappointment. For others, they appreciated the attempt and enjoyed it for what it was. But few Dune lovers could have anticipated a pair of epic movies being made of the quality of Denis Villeneuve's Dune duo. The first of which, from 2021, is now available to watch on Netflix. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista and Zendaya star (Picture: Chiabella James/Warner Bros Pictures/THA/REX/Shutterstock)

The Equalizer (2014)

Denzel Washington is one of America's finest ever actors. For many, his career is appreciated very much for his serious movies, ones made with frequent collaborator Spike Lee. But some of Denzel's most likeable roles come in action-thrillers made for directors like Tony Scott and Antoine Fuqua. Here, Denzel and his Training Day director Fuqua team up again to take on the classic TV character of Robert McCall. Edward Woodward played McCall in the original series. Here, Washington takes on the former intelligence asset and all-round capable good guy and makes him a modern day hero you can really get behind (Picture: Scott Garfield/Columbia/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Family Plot (1976)

The second of our six Hitchcock movies isn't the great man's most famous or successful pieces of work. But still, Family Plot is a curio worth checking out. Bruce Dern is excellent in the lead as a shady sort who, along with his psychic medium girlfriend (Barbara Harris), is hired by an elderly rich lady to track down her missing nephew and the heir to her fortune. It was Hitchcock's final film and is a surprisingly amusing black comedy that's better than its quiet reputation suggests it is (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Focus (2015)

You'll have seen better films about con artists than Focus, but there's enough energy and sexual chemistry between the movie's two leads, Margot Robbie and Will Smith, to propel this crime-comedy-drama across the finish line. In it, Smith's experience grifter Nicky takes the talented but new-to-the-game Jess under his wing. Of course, there's plenty of twists and turns before the credits roll (Picture: Frank Masi/Kramer Sigman/Zatfig/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Frenzy (1972)

The penultimate film of Hitchcock's career, Frenzy is easily the most twisted and violent too. It's based on the 1966 novel Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Arthur La Bern and stars Jon Finch, Alec McCowen, Barry Foster, Billie Whitelaw and Bernard Cribbins. It's all about a serial killer known as 'The Necktie Murderer', a killer that has shades of Jack the Ripper and the Rillington Place murderer John Christie. On its initial release, it was the only Hitchcock movie ever to be given an R rating in the US (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Great Outdoors (1988)

While not the greatest movie of either of their careers, this Dan Aykroyd and John Candy-starring comedy is funny enough and an easy watch. In it, a pair of families vacation together in a remote Canadian log cabin. As you can no doubt guess, the two patriarchs don't exactly get along. Ackroyd and Candy play well off each other, but the script's not incredible. So except a few wry smiles, but not too many belly laughs (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Hitchcock (2012)

Another Hitchcock movie now, but not one directed by Hitchcock. It's a movie about Hitchcock. And it's called... Hitchcock. Playing the idiosyncratic director is Sir Anthony Hopkins. And in the role of the man's wife - Dame Helen Mirren. Mirren was actually approached by Hitchcock to appear in Frenzy, but she turned down the role because, when the two met, she didn't like him. This biopic tells the untold story of the iconic filmmaker's private life, as well as his much-publicised career. Toni Collette co-stars (Picture: 20thC.Fox/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)

Hop (2011)

This family-friendly Easter comedy expertly blends live-action and animation as it follows E.B., the teenage son of the Easter Bunny, who escapes to Hollywood to pursue his dream of becoming a drummer. There, he befriends Fred, a slacker with his own ambitions. As Easter nears, they must stop a chick-led coup back at Easter Island (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Legend of Zorro (2005)

There's a pleasing feeling of the old school about this swashbuckling action film. Antonio Banderas plays the dashing masked swordsman, with Catherine Zeta Jones as his love interest. Rufus Sewell pops up as the bad guy and it's all masterfully seen over by Bond director Martin Campbell. It's inferior to its predecessor The Mask of Zorro, but it still buckles plenty of swashes nonetheless (Picture: Columbia/Spyglass/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)

Hitchcock remakes his own 1934 thriller, this time casting James Stewart and Doris Day as a vacationing couple accidentally entangled in an international assassination plot. Set across Morocco and London, it’s a slow-burner that builds to an unforgettable climax at the Royal Albert Hall. Doris Day’s 'Que Sera, Sera' wasn’t just a plot point, it won the Oscar for Best Song. While not as tense as his best, it’s classic Hitchcock, all shadowy menace and nail-biting tension (Picture: Paramount/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Neighbors (2014)

When a thirtysomething couple (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) move in next door to a frat house run by party boy Zac Efron, the result ends up being suburban war. What starts as passive-aggressive noise complaints spirals into full-on chaos involving airbags, party tricks and all sorts of increasingly gross pranks. Surprisingly sharp in places, this is slightly funnier than you might expect. Although there's a few rather low-brow moments. Overall, it's a fun Saturday night watch (Picture: Moviestore/REX/Shutterstock)

Now You See Me (2013)

Four illusionists pull off a series of bank heists during their magic shows, showering the audience with stolen cash while dodging an increasingly frazzled FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo). It’s slick, it's silly and it's nowhere near as clever as it thinks it is. Still, it's entertaining anyway. The main cast (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco) sell the razzle-dazzle effectively. And the Vegas-meets-Ocean’s Eleven vibe mostly works. Just ignore the plot holes and you'll have a magic time (Picture: Kurtzman Orci Paper Products/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Now You See Me 2 (2016)

Having escaped the law, the Four Horsemen from the first flick return to expose a tech villain played by Daniel Radcliffe, who leans gleefully into smarmy billionaire territory. Lizzy Caplan replaces Isla Fisher, bringing a welcome jolt of weirdness. The sequel ramps up the illusions and twists, even if the plot is largely nonsense. Critics weren't exactly kind on release, but audiences showed up. Best approached as a glossy, fast-talking caper where physics and logic take a back seat (Picture: O Paper Products/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

The Nutty Professor (1996)

Eddie Murphy certainly puts the work in in this 1990s retooling of the Jerry Lewis classic. As the kind-hearted, obese professor Sherman Klump - and practically the entire Klump family - Murphy’s performance(s) is/are a tour de force of prosthetics and energy. It's childish, sure, but it made a fortune and showed just how far Murphy would go for a laugh (Picture: Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Rear Window (1954)

The classic that inspired a million parodies and spoofs… A photographer (James Stewart), laid up with a broken leg, begins spying on his neighbours and soon suspects one of murder. Grace Kelly floats through the film like a dream, while Stewart ogles. Shot entirely on a single set, Hitchcock turns voyeurism into paranoia with masterful precision. It’s a slow build, but the final scenes still grip like a vice. Modern critics adore it, but even at release it was a hit and was nominated for four Oscars (Picture: Everett/REX/Shutterstock)

The Theory of Everything (2014)

More than just a career biopic of Stephen Hawking, this is also the story of his first marriage, told through the eyes of ex-wife Jane (Felicity Jones). Eddie Redmayne’s physically demanding performance as Hawking earned him an Oscar, while the film skirts over some scientific depth in favor of drama. But it works. The late composer Jóhann Jóhannsson’s score is a stunner - delicate, moving, and essential to the film’s overall mood (Picture:Liam Daniel/Working Title/Universal/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Ben Affleck ably directs and stars as a Boston bank robber who falls for a hostage from one of his heists. It's a familiar set-up, but the execution is sharp: tense set-pieces, strong dialogue and a supporting turn from Jeremy Renner that earned him an Oscar nomination. Shot in the gritty streets of Charlestown, the film mixes blue-collar authenticity with slick action. Based on Chuck Hogan's novel Prince of Thieves, it’s Affleck’s best directorial outing and a classic in the heist genre (Picture:Warner Bros/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

U-571 (2000)

This is a fictional World War II thriller in which American sailors hijack a German U-boat in order to capture a code-breaking machine - a plot that annoyed Brit historians (since it was really the British who actually did it). Still, as a tension-filled submarine flick, it delivers. There are depth charges, close quarters, moral dilemmas, periscopes and Matthew McConaughey before he got serious. Oh, and Jon Bon Jovi pops up too, for reasons unknown. U-571 won the Oscar for Best Sound Editing, but not for Historical Accuracy (Picture: Universal/Canal +/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Us (2019)

Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out is stranger, scarier and harder to pin down. Lupita Nyong’o gives a phenomenal dual performance as a mother and her eerie doppelgänger, leading a family into a nightmarish home invasion that unravels into something much bigger. Critics - rightfully - praised its ambition, metaphors and sheer weirdness. There's scissors, red jumpsuits, a weird underground rabbit warren thing… it’s a riddle box of terror with some truly memorable imagery all arranged by a modern-day horror maestro (Picture:Universal/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)

Vertigo (1958)

Widely regarded as Hitchcock’s masterpiece, Vertigo wasn’t always loved. In fact, it wasn't understood at the time of its release, with most of its acclaim coming decades later. James Stewart plays a retired cop obsessed with a mysterious woman (Kim Novak), in a story that spirals into surrealism and psychological torment. Its dreamy visuals and Bernard Herrmann’s haunting score have influenced generations of filmmakers. If you've never seen Vertigo, you should definitely check it out now it's available to watch on Netflix (Picture: Everett/REX/Shutterstock)
