Pro athlete dads who raised the next generation of sports stars

LeBron James, rear, is a four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA MVP whom many consider the greatest player of all time. His son Bronny was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024. They became the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game.

Two-time World Series champion Ken Griffey Sr., left, was a member of the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" that dominated the 1970s. Ken Griffey Jr. is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. His 21-year career included the 1997 AL MVP and 13 All-Star Game nods.

Bobby Bonds, left, was known for his power hitting and speed, becoming the first player to have more than two seasons of 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases. His son, Barry, also a left-fielder, won a record seven NL MVP awards and hit a record 762 career home runs, a mark marred by his involvement in the BALCO scandal.

Mychal Thompson won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers' "Showtime" teams. Son Klay Thompson, known for his 3-point shooting acumen, helped the Golden State Warriors to four titles. He currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks.

Cecil Fielder was a power hitter in the 1980s and 1990s, playing first base for the Detroit Tigers and winning a World Series with the 1996 New York Yankees. Prince Fielder, right, played for three teams during an 11-year career as a first baseman and was a six-time All-Star.

Right-handed pitcher Pat Mahomes played for six MLB teams and Patrick grew up in the clubhouse. Now, Patrick is Kansas City's quarterback and has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins and has three Super Bowl MVPs.

Dell Curry, who played for six NBA teams and retired as the Charlotte Hornets' leading scorer, is the father of two NBA players. Steph changed the game with his 3-point shooting and has led the Golden State Warriors to four titles. Seth, right, plays for the Hornets.

Vladimir Guerrero, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, played for 16 seasons and was known for his power, arm and ability to hit balls well outside the strike zone. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a four-time All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays.

A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Gary Payton spent most of his career with the Seattle SuperSonics and won an NBA title with the 2006 Miami Heat. His nickname was "The Glove" for his tenacious defense as a point guard. Gary Payton II plays for the Golden State Warriors, where he won a title in 2022.

Howie Long is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and won a Super Bowl with the Raiders. He is a studio analyst for Fox Sports' NFL coverage. Chris Long, center, won two Super Bowls as a defensive end like his father. Kyle Long was a three-time Pro Bowler as a guard with the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs.

Jerry Goff was an MLB catcher for three teams from 1990-1996. Jared Goff chose a different sport, excelling as a quarterback. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft out of California and is a four-time Pro Bowler. He currently plays for the Detroit Lions.

"The Golden Jet," Bobby Hull, right, was known for his blazing shot, skating speed and shock of blonde hair. He led the Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup in 1961 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983. Brett Hull won two Stanley Cups and was inducted in 2009.
