One Knox SC can't catch a break: Game that moved to Maryville canceled for I-40 rockslide
Tonight's women's soccer match between One Knoxville SC and the Greenville Liberty has been postponed due to a significant rockslide on Interstate 40 that's preventing the visiting team from reaching East Tennessee.
This is the latest incident in a growing series of scheduling disruptions at the new Covenant Health Park for both One Knox clubs and Knoxville Smokies baseball.
The One Knox women were scheduled to play their June 18 match at the downtown Knoxville stadium, but the game was moved to Maryville College to let the field recover from rainy weather over the weekend. The venue change came just days after the team's June 14 match was moved to Carson-Newman University in response to the weather and field conditions from the men's match the day prior.
Now tonight's game has been called off as Greenville was traveling to East Tennessee after an I-40 rockslide occurred near the Tennessee/North Carolina border at mile marker 450 in Cocke County. The rockslide, reminiscent of what happened to I-40 during Hurricane Helene flooding, has halted traffic in both directions.
The match will be rescheduled for a later date.
The women also are scheduled to face the Chattanooga Red Wolves at 6 p.m. June 20. This game has been moved to Maryville College.
"Overall, the venue change was made with player safety in mind," One Knox spokesperson Emma Moore told Knox News via email June 17. "The fields at Covenant seem to be in great condition, however we want to ensure we take the same precaution with our women as we did our men on Friday. We are looking forward to getting back out there Saturday!"

The One Knox men are scheduled to face South Georgia Tormenta FC at Covenant Health Park on June 21. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
